Who here on the forums make at least of portion of their regular income from buying/selling coins?

Not me, since I buy with discretionary income and have not seen fit to sell (except widget extras from mint set and proof set purchases after cutting out a cherry).

One of these days I will sell however. When that happens, I will experience the "other side" of the hobby. Hopefully it will not hurt too much; and if I am lucky I may even make a buck or two.

I have made profits on past sales, but not nearly enough to support the lifestyle that Mrs. Longacre has grown accustomed to.

Certainly not me. If I dealt any volume in coins, with my skill, eye and knack for predicting "what will work", it would not be long before my shortfall rivals that of the annual Federal government deficit.

I have, in the past, derived "garage sale" level income from the selling of coins. It's just a hobby, and I'm a whorder.
  • The only time in four years that I made a profit was when I recently sold off my "junk" silver. I bought most of my silver between the $5 and $9 marks, so the recent spike allowed my first ever chance to take some profit.

I will admit that I do. I love coins and my collection will always take precedence over dealing. Though I am 17 and buying and selling coins is what I do instead of working at Burger King or the local grocery store. The money I make pays for all of my needs as well as funding my growing toned coin collection.

I love to buy and sell coins as my tastes change and in the end I come close to breaking even but there have been a few big losses that are hard to swallow.

I only lose money on coin sales, but then again am both not looking for income from my hobby, and am much more likely to keep the nicer pieces and better deals I have gotten.

If it wasn't for all the money I make selling coins, I'd be living in a van down by the river.

i could sell every coin i bought at 10-30% profit today.
could i live off of it? hah.

maybe if i was buying with every penny i had for the last
five years and just started selling. yea i could coast for
a long while in this market.

edited to add: gold going up so much has everything to do with it.

I sold a lot of silver at $49-50/ounce back when the Hunts were living in bunkers, and have since bought more back for less. I also sold $300.00 worth in March for an average price of $6.33 per ounce and am proud to say I sold at the top of the market
  • no I do not.

Personally, I don't see how anyone can make a living selling coins.

Just think about it; you have to show a profit of several hundred dollars almost EVERY SINGLE DAY!
