Two very solid 8's IMO, and the Russell has a shot at a 9. God those are beautiful. Did you buy those raw on the 'bay?

    9oc?

The first thing I thought was 9OC as well. Nice eye appeal on both. What issue are they?

    8/8

  • 8/7 Could easily be 9/7

I say 7 because the centering of the Elkins and there appears to be a printing mark right above the EL in
his name. Cannot tell for sure, but looks like there is some wear in the lower right corner as well.

I would probably have to say 8 and 8 as well, the corners almost put out an eye when I opened the thread.

    Both are 7's

    9/8.
  • 7/7

I see a mark about 1 1/4 inch down on the right border--looks like an indentation--on the Bussell.

I'm concerned about the bottom right corner and T/B centering on the Elkins.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

O/C . . . are you guys crazy? Those are both 9's at the very least, unless of course, they are trimmed.
  • You can honestly sit there and say the Elkins is not OC top to bottom??

The Bussell is from L to R but it does not stand out as bad as the Elkins

    I still say 8/7

    8/8 based on the scans...

Its hard to tell from a scan, heck its even hard to judge holding the card in hand without good lighting.

I usually like to view mine under direct sunlight as it shows things you might not normally see...

Absolutely right. The first thing I look for on high grade looking raw cards are rubber band indentations. The Bussell could even possibly get a 5.

Elkins looks to be about 67/33 T/B, which puts it in the PSA 8 range..

The factor the possible fuzzy corner on the Elkins and the printing mark that is above the EL and that leaves you at best a 7.

If it's a PSA 7, it won't be because of the centering...That corner will have to be pretty rough, and its just too hard to tell on the scan, to be PSA 7 worthy. I have seen MANY PSA 8 1965 Topps cards with worse corners than this appears to be, just look at some of the ones currently listed on ebay. Again, hard to tell for sure...

I don't think the print mark is bad enough to earn a PD qualifier or keep it from being a PSA 8. For 1965 Topps, I think that print spot would be considered minor. It is enough to keep it from a 9 though.

8/7 centering on the elkins when measured top to bottom on the left side which is the worst point given the slight tilt
