Tradedollarnut, That is a Very Impressive set! The 1876 Dollar is Fabulous. I hope the 1877 is just as
impressive. Will watch for your Pic's of it on your site. Thanks for sharing. Mikeimage

Sad to say, but my only upgrade would be a 2004-D Keelboat 5c in MS68.
Making my 2004 mint set 100% Top Pop.

Nothing quite like your amazing set Tradedollarnut. (But hey, I'm just a pup in this hobby.

"Finest specimen known", a measure of excellence that the high ground commands. I appreciate your web site ( my vote best site) and your acumen to collect the best, is one I admire. I have made mine in oil and real estate, but do enjoy the challenge to acquire "the finest specimen known" in what I fancy.

    Bruce,

Finally, you own it. Is this MS65 better than your best 1877-P MS64 (the one you showed me before)?

  • Bruce; You have ONE more coin to go. What is the story behind the last coin that makes you say this will be the final upgrade?

I keep hoping to make an upgrade to my set. It has been a couple of years since a new TOP POP SBA was made (not that I look forward to shelling out the $$$ if someone else makes it). I do not think PCGS will be grading any SBA's MS68 any time soon. Since that is all that is left to upgrade, I am not holding my breath.

That 'one more coin' is an example of questionable eye appeal. I've had several chances to purchase it and have resisted every time.

Didn't your MS67 used to be pop top and the MS68 was - relatively - recently made?

Both coins sold in the 1990 Seattle ANA sale in rattler holders one grade lower [ie: MS66 @ $50,600 and MS67 @ $66,000 respectively - note the very small spread in price realized]. I bought my coin about 6 years ago as an MS67 for $40k [good deal, eh?]. The other coin was in the Knoxville collection and regraded MS68 at NGC and finally crossed about two years ago. It was offered to me at $125k and then sold in auction around $90k. It's been on and off the market several times over the past few years. It simply doesn't possess enough eye appeal to make me want to sell mine.

Edited to add: the actual pop for my 78-S is 1/1 .... the MS68 is the other MS67. They still haven't fixed this on the pop report. image

This by far is the best set on the PCGS set registry! The set basically consists of (1/0) coins and will never be duplicated.

If a book hasn't been written about this set, it should be!

I used to think that - until TDN built his Seated Dollar set. Now I think it's a tie. In any event, I wouldn't kick any of the coins out of bed.

    Bruce,

HOLY image that's a nice looking set!!!!
If I didn't know better, some of those coins look so nice as to be unreal!

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

TDN--Your set is really a national treasure. Both these TD's and the Seated Lib.s are basically a reference set of the finest, best preserved examples of our Nation's basic unit of both domectic and international commerce--the dollar. As much these sets are befitting a top Museum's space--I hope the examples remain available for collectors in the distant future. Congrads on the upgrade!image

How do you set up a Presidential Review for both coins? It would be a great move by David Hall to offer to flip the bill to make everybody happy if a discrepancy is found in the grading of those two coins.

That'll never happen. I'll just be satisfied with my beautiful MS67 that was discovered in my home town.

I say this with all honesty...I would pay to see a set like this. I was in Baltimore to see all (5) '13 Nickels and that was awesome, but these coins are truly remarkable.

The trade dollar set might be on display at Legend's table at the Summer ANA in Denver. We are still discussing the arrangements.

You know Bruce, you really should do a numbered leather bound book of both the Seateds and these Trade $.....make it an 11x17 size too, at 1200+ dpi image

That was my intent when I got the True View images done.... however, the sizes are 'in between'. When I either scale down the large one or up the medium one, they become too blurry to print. image

A little justice if you ask me...just wish you had gotten the upgrade. The issue of flat stars on the 1877 or any other Trade was a non-issue imo. NGC never took it to that extent. It has never mattered on seated coins that I have seen and not Barbers either. Looks like PCGS finally figured it out.
