Power Seller designation

All other things equal (feedback, etc.) - is it more comforting to buy from a seller with the "Power Seller" designation than not?

  • It doesn't matter to me! There are good ones and bad ones.

it is to me. i know how difficult it is to get the designation and i know what sellers will go through to keep it.
    Currently Buying:
2004 Tommie Harris SPX Printing Plate (White Whale will pay top $$$)
1994 SP Football Die Cuts PSA 10s
  • I dont think Power Seller adds a thing, even though I am one . High quality feedback is what counts, not that your monthly Ebay sales average $1,000!

I have to agree with poppie. I've seen several "powersellers" that shill their own auctions up just to meet the minimum sales volume requirements. I'm not a power seller, but have been asked a few times (by Ebay.) I just don't want to HAVE to keep selling a minimum amount monthly. Feedback is pretty tough to beat.

Also... one piece of advise I have for ya.... if you have ANY DOUBT in the seller... email them. Use the "ask the seller a question" link and see if they respond. Usually, if they won't respond to your question, that's a pretty good clue how they'll treat you throughout the process. If they do respond but with a short/rude response... pass it on and keep looking. Most genuine sellers actually care about their sales, and do a better job of taking care of the buyer.

We've ALL been on the receiving end of a raw deal one way or another...

Couldnt have said it better myself........
  • Well I personally will not buy from a Power Seller who spends most of his add talking about him being one or even mentions it for some reason, to me that is trying to take attention away from the product. I am a PS and I don't even mention it except for my logo beside my name.

It is not really that hard to gain or keep the logo depending on what type items you sell, some items will make you work alot harder than others.

A drawback is there are many buyers who simply refuse to buy from a Power Seller because they feel that being a PS equals a more automated and less personal experience. In many cases that is true.

A seller is only as good as his feedback and customer service skills whether it be power seller or just a plain old goat like me.

I am one, but agree that it means little to most experienced buyers. I think it is comforting to most new buyers though. And if they click on my powerseller icon, they learn a little bit about feedback in general - which is good for everyone. Nice to have access to telephone support too.

I have never had to use them, but hopefully they are better informed than the Live Help people. There is one CS agent on Live Help that is still telling memebers that in order to sell on Ebay and take Paypal you do not have to accept Credit cards. That has been untrue since August 2005.

Another person on one of the Ebay boards was saying they were told they could use bidpay and another mean of accecpting payment.
