    I saw part of the game. His control was off - 5 walks in 5 innings, but he only allowed 2 hits. The Cubs don't give Dumpster many blown saves opportunities, but he got another for his collection today image

    Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

    There's a chance he has pitched his last game for the Cubs. The Prior / Wood combo has got to be the most disappointing pair of potential ace starters that I can remember.

    How much of it is poor management and how much of it is poor effort on Wood/Prior?

    ^^Well, I think it's 50/50 Ax. Let's face it the Cubs owners haven't exactly tried to bring in talent(offensive or pitching) to surround these guys with to make a run. I have a strong suspecion that both Woods/Prior realize this and want out and rather than actually hurting themselves by pitching with Dusty "What's 140 pitches right off the DL, he's fresh and rested!" Baker as the manager so I think they are pulling what Vince Carter did in Toronto. Limp around for a few seasons and wait to be shipped out to a contender. Not something I'd do, but hey I'm not in their position.

    If the Cubs execs are smart, which they're not (I'm a diehard Cub fan, I swear!), they will consider Kerry's capabilities post-surgery. Why not a closer? Set-up? Even part-time. This is yet another in a continuing series of disappointments for my beloved North Siders. Too hard to take. I feel like I opened a Wonka Bar that night in October '03, then Bartman, then Gonzalez boots the grounder, then the world just caves in and my frickin' Golden Ticket falls in the sewer! It's right there where I can see it, but it's just out of reach.....I'll be back in Mesa next March to see what's new, though, cuz I know that next year is gonna be the year, right? RIGHT?! I miss Harry Caray. Peace
