<< <i>Steve,

Ask the questions here Doug so we can all participate. No problem if you don't want to do it that way but that's the only way I wish to do it. I don't really care about the interview...that's up to you and PSA if they give you permission to print anything posted here which I can't see why they wouldn't. I come here for the cards which I have enjoyed since ripping open my first wax pack in 1962. One of the cards in that pack was a #53 Maris-Mantle HR leaders and it is still one of my favorite cards, especially since Maris and Mantle had a "pretty good" HR season in 1961.
Also here is a link to those 1962 stamps if needing it although you're probably familiar with this. They have 1961 stamps on this website as well.

You mentioned in a previous post that some of the Topps specials and inserts from the 50's and 60's are some of the "best investment values," why do you feel that way?
Is there anything in particular about the 1962 stamp inserts, other than it being from your favorite set, that appeals to you?
What have been the toughest stamps from either 1962 for you to find in top shape?
Do you have any stories concerning the '62 stamps, a "find" of them for example, that you think collectors might enjoy hearing about?
We'll start with those and go from there.
Thanks, Doug
<<< You mentioned in a previous post that some of the Topps specials and inserts from the 50's and 60's are some of the "best investment values," why do you feel that way? >>>
I just feel that initially collectors "overlook" these insert items, but as they get more involved in the hobby and complete their regular issued card sets, they may or will get the desire to have the insert items as well. My favorite two sets are 1962 and 1965 Topps Baseball, and I just feel these sets wouldn't be complete without the insert items as well.
<<< s there anything in particular about the 1962 stamp inserts, other than it being from your favorite set, that appeals to you? >>>
You may find this funny...I kept all my baseball cards from when I was a kid but I never cared for these stamp inserts back in 1962 and didn't even collect or save any. In comparison I loved those 1965 gold embossed insert cards then and now. To me at the time, a baseball card should be a baseball card or something like it, not a stamp. The reason I didn't care for the insert stamps was that I also at the time had a US stamp collection, as I think a lot of kids back then did. To me at the time, the Topps stamps were sort of like "phony" stamps to me...like "real stamps" should only be issued and collectable from the post office issues. Just the way one young kid was thinking at the time. As stated though, now I love these stamps.
<<< What have been the toughest stamps from either 1962 for you to find in top shape? >>>
They all seem about the same as far as supply. I think the Mantle is as plentiful as all the rest but of course the demand is much greater hence the higher selling price. Don't expect any value buying them raw on ebay - chances are virtually 100% that they were once pasted in the album and then steamed off the paper...in my view that basically renders them worthless although still would be a cool, inexpensive collectable to some, just not for me.
<<< Do you have any stories concerning the '62 stamps, a "find" of them for example, that you think collectors might enjoy hearing about? >>>
No finds but I do have a story. As stated, I and most kids didn't really care for these stamps. But there was one kid in our neighborhood who was a friend of mine, who loved them and whenever possible we just would give our Topps stamps to him. He had many, MANY, thousands of them. A few summers ago from Philly, we decided to drive up to see the old neighborhood of Fairfield Connecticut where I lived until the fourth grade before moving to Philly...and after that we drove up to visit Cooperstown. The kid I mentioned with the stamps I hadn't seen since 1965 and lo and behold he is still living in the same house which he bought from his parents who moved to another area. Of course one of the first things we talked about was our baseball cards because all we used to do during the summer was play baseball and trade & flip baseball cards. Well...I know you see it coming...he really got a depressed look on his face when he told me his mom threw out all his cards and inserts when he was off at college...he wasn't too happy about that but unfortunately a lot of mothers did the same. It could have been a 1962 stamps "find" but alas it wasn't.
Thanks for the questions...brought back some very nice memories.

<< <i>No, they are the original out of the 1962 wax packs without any steaming at all. They were stored 40 years...I dont get it. The same ones are on ebay and graded PSA right now. >>
PSA does not now, nor has ever been the quintessence of consistency when it comes to grading oddball isues.
The 62s add color and team emblems with 200 total stamps
Now...my question for the article....Lemke lists two variations of the 62 Siever, one with KC and one with the Phils. I want to know if any one has actually seen or better yet can provide a scan of the KC variation, or if it an urban legend
Bowman Baseball -1948-1955
Fleer Baseball-1923, 1959-2007

The stamps from both years are relatively tough to find centered, there were tons of miscuts. The perforated edges damage easily, one torn/missing perforation and the stamp cannot possibly be higher grade than VG in my opinion.
If you'd like a picture or two for your article, here you go:
<< <i>I have a set of each plus the albums. I collected them as singles. Some people collect them as panels, since that is the way they were inserted in packs. There are 208 stamps in 1961 but only 207 players as Kaline appears twice...once green ( 104) and once brown ( 104).

Well this website is selling either one for $2.50 so perhaps that's some indication.

Thanks for the info on the '61-'62 Topps BB stamps.
If anyone has scans of both Roy Sievers stamps, preferably side-by-side, from 1962 (Philadelphia and Kansas City)
please send them in a jpg file to me at:
kozpro20@hotmail.com
As for the size of the scans, please have them in the 1.1 MB to 1.5 MB range.
Also, if by chance you have a scan of the wrappers from those years and they advertise the stamps
please send a scan of those.
Thanks again to everyone for their help and I'm sure I'll soon have more questions on the 60's stamps.
Just sent you images of complete '61 and '62 packs, showing the stamp inserts. Here they are as well-
Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's
Thanks for the pack scans. I received them via email and they look great.

<< <i>I have not heard back from SportsCards.com on whether they think they have ever had or seen the Siever variation, but I did contact Mark Mosier at Columbia City Collectibles in Indiana. Mike is a long time dealer and SCD advertiser who specializes in odd ball Fleer and Topps issues. He says he has never seen a KC variation and knows of no one who has one. Doug....if you get some confirmation sure hope you would post it >>
I also "Googled" and "Yahooed" this every which way and couldn't find anything. Interesting because I have some older price and info guides which have been uncanningly accurate in descriptions and details on baseball cards and inserts, and one does list this KC stamp with no preface about it not being issued. But it does appear that you could be correct. Of course Sievers never even played for KC. I will definitely be keeping a sharp eye out for this stamp.
I see you are a Philly fan--are you based out of there? I ask since for the articles I usually tell at least the state where a collector is from.
Still no confirmation the Sievers/KC '62 stamp exists. If anyone has a scan please post it here or email me at kozpro20@hotmail.com

Thanks again everyone for all your help.
