More Ebay Shenanigans........

I want to BIN an item because the seller has lowered the price for me.

I went to BIN it but up came screen which says that my buying limit has been reached so in order to provide a safe trading environment they want me to submit my phone number on which I will receive an automated call which will give me a PIN number. When making my next purchase I must then enter this PIN number.

Has anybody encountered this before ?

TIA

ZAR: No, and the more that I hear about this type of personal information intrusion, the more leary I get about doing business on the Bay of E.

  • Yep - I think that I'll be buying less and less coins on Ebay and more and more from folks on these threads.

    "Buying limit"???

    Never heard of it.

Doesn't smell right... in fact it stinks like yesterday's diapers. Are you sure it's coming from Ebay proper, and that you weren't redirected to some scammer's page? I hope you didn't log in...

Was this an email you received, a message, or a login prompt? I think you've been scammed.
  • A year or two ago a seller had a complete 3 year run of reference magazines up, each month was a separate listing. I wanted them all and contacted the seller, we agreed on shipping and I started the process of buying them each on an instant buy.

About 25 purchases into this run a notice came up saying that my password had been reset and that I needed to contact eBay. In the end it was a security measure designed to determine if my account had been comprised in some manner.

I was less than happy for the interruption and the requirement to jump through hoops.

I guess this sort of security measure is in place to stop a compromised account from buying hundreds of auctions or from what may appear to be a vendetta against someone.

Had I not complied, I would trust I would still be locked out of my account?

If it is legitimate, it will appear as a message in your "My Messages" in the "My eBay" page.
