U.S. Dimes Complete Set, Circulation Strikes (1796-present) IMHO CANNOT AND WILL NOT BE COMPLETED!

I was perusing the Pop Report on my last day to do so when I noticed that there are some very low pop and total graded coins for some very early years.
Examples:
1804 "13 Stars Reverse" total pop graded = 13, highest grade possible = AU53
1804 "14 Stars Reverse" total pop graded = 4, highest grade possible = AU50
1814 "States of" total pop graded = 4, highest grade possible = AU58, and actually this coin IS FOR SALE on eBay right now, for $11,000!
Basically this says that only 4 of us can complete the set. PCGS has been around for 20 years and only 2 of thses coins listed above have a pop of 4 which means that PCGS gets one about every 5 years! Has anyone challanging this set ever looked at the pops? Most of the early dimes are in single digits for the grades and alot of these coins just don't come up for sale unless Heritage would be lucky to get one, then you have the high prices. Nick stated that you would have to have alot of luck and a "Gallon of cash". This is the statement that does it for me.
Lots of luck fellas!
Later, Paul.

Paul: Here is a set I have been working on for a number of years. Forget PCGS pops 3 or 4 - how about MINTAGES of 3 or 4 coins and the Smithsonian or other Museums (or decades old collections) have the coins impounded already!
Wondercoin
you have to also look at the ngc pop report as a collector could buy and cross from ngc,
as you see in Mitch's set he also has several of the pattern's in ngc holders
eitherway it will take a long time to complete the set in any grade regardless
of how much cash you have due to the number graded

I have indeed taken into consideration the othe TPG's. It would be to complex for me to go and add everything else up. I was referring to just PCGS coins, but yes Tim, I get your drift. Needless to say, I just don't think it can be done. We will be seening alot of PO01, GO03 and etc...
Nice set of Nickels Mitch. I absolutely love the Patterns. The Nickels are very pretty, and have outlandish designs. Very impressive collection!!!
I would be impressed to see just a MS set of Seated Libs-Date.

And don't forget I have had ALL of these coins before. My problem is not finding them, but having the money to buy them.
Paul, this does not mean you are quittting does it! I thought we were having fun!
Jon
If someone would give me say 350K I could complete this set within the year.
Jon
No I am not quitting. Why do you always think that? If I had 350K I wouldn't spend all of it on this set I can tell you that!

In the last sentence of your original post you said "And this statement does it for me". That is what I took as you might be out.
And you really can throw away the pop reports on nice circ graded bust, seated, and barber dimes. I'm talking about VF to AU coins that are not graded for various reasons. One is that a lot of collectors of these coins don't care about the plastic. I used to be one of them. I had ALL of the dimes and most were graded XF or better with a lot of VF's and some low ones like my 74-CC which was a very nice original good. I had all 5 of the 1814's in vf or better including the statesofamerica and they were all raw. I don't know about the rest of the collectors in this set, but I will be making a lot of them myself. I didn't sell off all my coins so I have a lot to send in. I have already made 18 and have 20 in right now and probably have 20 or more to do. My biggest regret is selling the keys like the 71-74cc's and my 1804PCGS10 and of course my 16-D in PCGS62. My 1822 was a very nice original vf that I am sure would have graded. My point here is that we will have to make a lot of these coins because a lot of them are just not sent in.
There are probably 100 or more coins out on Heritage, ebay and several other sites right now if I had the $$$.
When my ship comes in you see the reg flag on my set continuesouly.

Jon, I believe that there is someone out there that has most or not all of these coins raw. They don't care about the PCGS slab non-sense and will never get them graded. I have made quite a few dimes myself, and look forward to going to the Mid America coin Expo in Chicago 6/22-25. I'm hoping to bring home a few nice RAW specimens.
My early goal in this set is to complete the Roosies and the Barbers, then move onto the merc's and finally the early stuff. Non of this is set in stone, and will add any date when available.
Yes, with unlimited funds, I would have added about 150 dimes in the past 6 months, but hey...were not all Rich, just some of us around here!
