Saturday Finds

Definitely not up to par of a Mad Marty pawn shop discovery, but our local self-storage was cracking open locks and auctioning everything inside the delinquent units. After 4 hours of bags of toys, dishes, junk drawers, crappy furniture, bikes, etc, the auctioneer pulls this out of a box and says here is a small kids bank with some pennies. I could make out a few things I knew weren't pennies, so went for it. The auction was swift, I opened at $3, two other bids, I came back with $6 and it was over.
There really wasn't anything worth taking a single picture of. Besides a few hundred wheat pennies (1919 was the oldest), a few strange tokens, and some interesting darkside coins, there was really only 3 US coins of note. An 1834 large cent (AG3 at best), an 1898 Indian Head, and a P01 flying eagle cent. I can make out the back inner part of the wreath if I hold it just right in the light. Nothing to write home about, but I found a few "S" mint wheaties for me and my son's Whitmans.
I think almost as good was at a yard sale I stopped at on my way to the auction. I looked briefly at some football cards and the guy asked if I'm interested in cards. I said I use to be, more interested in coins now-a-days. He says he's the VP of a local coin club and invites me to their meetings. He gave me a list of their monthly auction items and door prizes and such. I didn't even know we had a coin club. (Those of you who've read some of my posts - I live in the "boon-docks" and within a 1-hour drive have 1 antique store that sells coins, that's it). This was a great discovery for me!

<< <i>Is that Snoopy???? Hey, I'd have a hellava lot of fun with that for only 6 bucks. : >>
Snoopy it is - the top of his head/coin slot was broken though, so it's going to the trash. I nicked myself "Finger-fishing" through the opening during the rest of the auction trying to see what was in there. That's what I get for being impatient.
Yea, I was happy with it for 6 bucks. Looks like some guy's personal "stash" as he was growing up - nothing too valuable, just trinkets he picked up along the way. If I had to guess, by the lack of US silver, that's probably why the top had been broken off at one point.
