Ben Franklin Coin and Chronical's

Sorry this thing left me without the message:

Just received mine in the mail...I have not opened one and was wondering if I should ! These look like they are packaged nice and if anyone thinks they will be worth more on down the road?

How many were produced?

    I got mine.

$65 for a dollar, a couple stamps and...packaging and marketing.

I've played the Mint's game for awhile, but they're getting a tad greedy....

What is the appeal of not opening mint packages?

You can't check for defective merchandise, and you can't enjoy your coins.
    Many happy BST transactions

The commems these days are getting to be, to me, what I heard the older commems were like......too many issued in a short time just for the greed factor.
More than 1 commem/yr is, imho, too many.

Everyone wants the $$$ now and people are biting image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • Just opened mine, this is an excellent set, worth the money. More appealing than the Buffalo and Milleniums sets.
  • Well I can not afford all the mint has to sell...so I try to be selective and buy what I am hoping will be a low minted coin or coins...I have made blunders and hope I will not repeat them.
  • Those two coin Buffalo sets are beautiful...it would be hard to beat their beauty...but mintage wise how do the buffalo and the Ben Franklin compare?

Hey dpoole, got any pics? (PS-I'm not coincop lol)
  • I do not know the seller but linked the auction to show the contents. image

    E-bay
  • Very cool thanks joeyukimage
  • joeyuk, Thanks for the link...I must say they do look nice...I think I will keep mine sealed....

It depends on what you are comparing. Total mintages? Franklin gets the nod with a total mintage of 500,000 for two different designs each in two finishes compared to the Buffalo with 500,000 for one design and two finishes.

If you mean the special sets then they are the same. 50,000 sets each for the Buffalo Coin & Currency, Franklin statesman/chronicles, and whatever the set was for the Franklin scientist set. I forget it's name.

Overall I think the lowest mintage is the Unc Scientist.

imageWhat's with the large picture on the bottom of the folder that is encased in plastic. Is it on special paper or something? I'm wondering why it just wasn't printed on the folder without the plastic bubble over it. It looks vaguely familiar too... image
