I gues we can leave axtell, ctsox, and a few other off the lsit, although I SHARE your opinion. How about people chime in who are not from Masachusetts, or devote yankess haters which we already know sound off here.

Not really. I guess I do kinda like it when they lose in the playoffs or World Series, but I really don't care what happens to them on or off the field during the regular season.

  • They're a little fun to hate in the regular season, but if the Yankees get too bad, like they are now, there's always the danger of them buying players from your team.

For many people who dislike the Yankees, I would say it's not the players themselves, it's the entire premise of the team and how they have an unfair advantage due to their market - it is the best in the world and they have tremendous TV & merchandising in-flows. With the baseball agreement playing right into their corner, the luxury tax is seen as nothing more than an insignificant cost of doing business to them, whereas, the vast majority of other teams cannot possibly operate in that manner as it would be a financial debacle in most cases. It's easy to dislike a team that wins by essentially buying the best players from teams that cannot afford to pay them as much as the Yankees can (because overpaying for the other team could lead to financial losses), with minimal emphasis on internal player development.

The Yankees will ultimately be the team responsible for an eventual change in the baseball salary structure and revenue sharing, as baseball undoubtedly will need to go to a capping system in the future to ensure more equality from team to team.

Buahahhahaha and another COMPLAINT from someone accusing everyone as a Yankee hater. Maybe you should read a bit (or lewast read further than Yankee and hate in the smae sentence) into my title/post saying that "yes I am/maybe biased and wanted some other opinions". PS I only complain about Sir-spam-a-lot (gemmy 10 and all his aliases) starting 8 threads about should each one of the starters be in the hall of fame. Oh the players voted Jeter the most overrated player in the game. THE PLAYERS voted that...more yankee haters right softonthebrain? Yes I like a good ribbing, but attacking me and lumping me into the same group as Coinhusker, ctsox, and Axtell since I am in Mass????? I think you are paranoid that EVERYONE is a Yankees hater. I digress, ... Are the yankees, and the fans) FUN to hate? Have all their previous wins just made them the team to beat? Or is it me growing up in Boston. JUST A QUESTION!! buahahhahahaha

  • I hate the Yankees but let's show a little hate towards cheapskate owners who pocket the luxury tax money and don't put one red cent of it into their team as they were meant to do. At least Steinbrenner wants his team to win.

Oh the players voted Jeter the most overrated player in the game.

    Ted

with all due respect. 472 players answered the poll. 30 teams x 30 players equals 900 active players. yes I know each team is allowed 25 active but for arguments sake each team has at least 5 guys that are in and out.

OK so of 900 guys 472 or 54% of those eligible to answer the poll 9% voted that Jeter was the most over rated. 9% of 472 is around 52 guys. 52 guys!

To say that the PLAYERS voted him as the most overrated is like saying Bill Clinton was a majority president.

Put into context even Axhole had a hard time twisting that. And believe me he tried, but as usual I slapped him down.

    Good for you.

Why should they put the money back into the team? That makes no sense from a business perspective. Look at the Royals- what's 12 mill more in payroll going to do for them? Get them up to 65 wins? Paying eight digits more in payroll so you can STILL be in the cellar in your division would be an utter waste.

Regarding the Yankees-- I enjoy watching them lose, just as I enjoy watching the Red Sox, Dodgers and Twins lose. But more than that I enjoy watching the Tigers win.

    Steve--

I don't want this to get too inflammatory, but it's a little embarrassing to see a man of your age (I'm assuming you're at least in your 40's, if I'm wrong I apologize) get so involved in a flame war on an Internet message board. I've always enjoyed your posts, but it's at the point now where I just skip them (on this forum at least), since 99% of them say the same thing to the same person.

The Yanks are a lot more fun to hate now than they were during their 1996-2000 WS run. Think about it. Those teams had Jeter, Bernie, O'Neill, Tino, Petitte, Rivera -- mostly nice guys that played well together -- not very "hateable" to me. I never cheered for them, but respected thier success under Joe Torre, and Steinbrenner's "hands off" approach worked.

However, in attempts to hold on to those championships, Steinbrenner started meddling again and now you have a collection of surly hired guns that are much more hatable -- Sheffiled, Giambi, Johnson, Pay-Rod, and much more fun to cheer against -- with the 2004 ALCS being the pinnacle of joy in cheering against the hired guns!! image

    Boo

Frankly, It is not my concern what you read or do not read here.

please do not take that the wrong way.

If you must know, and since you claim you never read it I'll give you a quick condensed version.

I was dealing with a cement headed thick as a brick idiot.

You are right though it is best to ignore people like that.

    advice taken.

    Steve

edited to add: I guess you skip thru many threads as he seems to have a flame war going on with at least 5 other people at any given time.
    Good for you.

I rather like "the Boss". Owners like him make the game more colorful and fun and are an interesting side show. (sort of like
Mark Cuban). Waiting for the next barrage from George directed at the quality of his teams play helps keep the sportswriters busy.
