I think Dennis knows what he's doing. That's a sharp looking Half. He may have requested additional pictures from the seller for all we know. This seller has had some pretty nice looking coins on Ebay that I've looked at. The no return policy would be a deal killer for me. But then who knows, Dennis may have gotten an agreement from the seller where he could return the coin if he found something detrimental. Nothing's written in stone, especially from an Ebay seller. A lot of time the sellers that say no returns, just don't want to to have the hassle from people that think auctions are approval services.
Can't tell for sure from the picture, but it looks to me like somebody shined the shot out that one. Maybe used a little brasso on a damp cloth and gave it the military look.
Who is General Failure, and why is he reading my hard drive?
You guys want to hear something funny? I didn't know that I was bidding on that auction until I saw this thread!
What I mean by that is I personally did not bid on the auction. Andrew from our Chicago office is the high bidder. "jaderarecoin" on eBay is our company account and there are 3 of us with the password. Occassionally Andrew will bid on coins and this happens to be one of those times.
I called Andrew today to get the details. He informed me that he actually saw the coin in person at another dealer's coin shop in Chicago a couple of weeks ago. The seller was in trying to sell some of the coins and Andrew had a chance to see the coins in person. He said that it is lock PF-62 with a shot at PF-63 and that it is certifiable at PCGS or NGC. He stated that the coin has some light hairlines, which are typical for this era of proof seated coinage. If he wins the coin at his bid price (which is a bit more than the current bid), then it will be a rip. One thing most of you don't know is that Andrew is a specialist in Seated Coinage and, furthermore, is a prudent coin buyer. He just doesn't lose money on coins.
Well, that about sums it up. Not having a return privilege is stupid on the seller's part, but great for us since it will eliminate a lot of bidders. Also, Andrew said that the picture is terrible, which further helps his goal of being high bidder. For what it's worth, I would not have bid on that auction without seeing the coin in person, but he did have that advantage.
Hmm, can't see why I shouldn't take a stab at this one myself.

If I had inside information like Jade--I wouldn't be nearly as nice to Techneff as Jade was, for posting the coin here. If Techneff has a gripe with Jade, why not just write down the problem so he may respond?
I don't think Techeff was trying to slight jaderarecoin (dennis or andrew) on the coin but was pointing it out because the pic makes it look fakes/worked (at least, to me). Was probably more a surprise thing.
Of course, now that Dennis has come out with what he did, seems there is a "bucksnort" that has become the high bidder.....any bets that the person reads this forum???

I had the same thought--if it's really a proof, they're easier to certify if hairlined--limiting the risk.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
jade gets a
it still is probaby worth 2-3 times current bid with 12 hours to go
I imagine you were talking about Jade bidding, but it's a live auction and he wasn't the high bidder any longer.
Gotta figure out a better way to describe what you want people to look at.
Imagine if it didn't matter who the highest bidder was?
