Yes, I find when you use the 'link' function here, it automatically inserts the http://.

I couldn't find the video elsewhere to link...it's an amazing video, even if you have seen it before.

Wow, I've actually never heard of that. That's one of the coolest things ever. It instantly made me a Rick Monday fan. I've had many of his cards come and go from my presence but now I just may hang on to a few.

Don't know if it's the greatest play ever but I'll never forget when the Indians beat the Orioles in the playoffs in extra innings when Marquis Grissom scored from third when the ball rolled a few feet away from the catcher.......I was at that game with my wife and we were sitting behind home plate in the upper level second row and it was AWESOME!!

Not sure if everyone understands what the thread is about.

I think it is about the time Rick Monday tackled 2 knuckleheads in the OF who were attempting to burn the US flag.

No tackle, just a swift theft of the flag as the two were trying to ignite it.

Funny thing is, when I was a teenager, we lived in SoCal from 1977 to 1980 and I followed the Dodgers fairly closely, but never heard that story until now!!

What do I remember about Rick Monday is when he hit something like 15 or 16 homers in April of 1978 (or 79, I forget).
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
I doubt that coin. Pujols just set the record with his 14th in april.

Coin it was before Monday was with the Dodgers, and before you were in LA. Pretty big news at the time, and his parents house was on my paper route and they got mobbed.I"m sure it had a lot to do with him eventually getting hired as a Dodger broadcaster as well.

I remember when that happened... Rick Monday earned alot of respect and deserves to be recognized for showing some compassion for just being American. If I recall correctly, he was always humble about this incident claiming that he did what anyone else would have done if they were in that position. He handled the whole thing very well.

I remember when he played for the A's as well as the Cubs. I saw him hit 2 HRs in Wrigley against Philadelphia in 1973. Unfortunately, there were two players for Philly that hit HRs that were literally out of the park and the Phillies won the game... its hard to believe that was 33 years ago.

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.

Glad I took the time to read that. Great act by a great guy.

in the video on the MLB site, he just recently recounted the incident and said he has been asked many times over the years, "how do you feel that after playing baseball for 19 years, that your are remembered for something not related to the game?" and he said "You know if I have to be remembered for something, I am ok with it being this. I am just proud that it was something good and not something bad."
