Since finding this forum sometime in 2002, I've been a Stand Up Lurker, keeping my post count very low, although I have been reading an awful lot.
I've learned through helpful forum members posts how to post photos, how to use Paint to reduce the size below 50kbs, how to add links in my sigline, and perhaps the most helpful and beneficial, how to take photos of the coins I love to collect.
Probably the most helpful in terms of the coins I photo would be switching from halogen bulbs to OTT lights, as the OTT shows the difficult to capture colors on copper coins. I know Shylock has been a big fan of OTT lights, and after seeing his copper photos here about two years ago, I became a believer as well.
And of course, reading Mgoodm3's photo article will really help anyone out who takes the time to read it through.
With all that being said, I am still not anywhere near as good as those guys, but I happened to take a pic the other night that is definitely better than what I had previously taken.
Are your photos consistent? Or do you sometimes 'nail it' and other times have to try again?
This one I think I 'nailed it', I captured the surface texture as I have never done before. It really felt good to have a photo come out like this.

Have fun...Mike
You nailed the surface texture of that coin - Stewart Blay calls it peach fuzz.
I love the detail on early kennedys. Late ones lose it. Same with lincolns.
<< <i>I think we all use the practice makes perfect technique and our images get better over time >>
Krypto...I would tend to agree with that statement.
Shylock took those photos quite a while ago, and I remember him saying he wished he could do it all over now,
with what he knows and has learned about shooting copper since then.
MrSpud, very nice, I love the detail!
MikeinFL...always enjoy seeing your pics! Great coins too!

I just found it odd how this photo I took was head and shoulders above anything else I've shot yet,
including the reverse of the same coin.
Dizzyfoxx..commems have to be hard to photo no? Each with a unique design and differing reliefs have got to take some adjustments??
I know you're very passionate about your commems!
LeeG, awesome shot of the 10-S! You got all the little striations of color that are frequently on copper, plus that coin has a great look!
Thanks to everyone for sharing!
