.......and they really suck! I have no idea what happened to quality control at the Mint but there are very few coins in either the Silver Proof Sets otr the Clad Proof Sets actually worht keeping! I have never seen sauch poor quality coins!

Yes thats a scratch on the Nevada and the Nebraska. The photo was taken with out the plastic cover on the set. The field on the Nebrask shown is typical of all the Nevada's I have received including the clad's.

Has anybody received a clear Nebraska? Should I send these back for replacements?

Almost forgot this one.

Folks, that appears to be Die Polish on a Clad Proof Quarter. Has anybody ever seen something like this?
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Perhaps you should buy more and then once you get a good one, send one big pile of rejects back via insured mail.

Sorry to hear of your disappointment. Send them back if not satisfied. I got my FIVE and am quite happy.......

I've decided to send them all back for replacements. A State quarter Silver Set, 3 Silver Proof Sets and 3 Clad Proof Sets. Perhaps I'll browse the Denver Mint Store to at least get a decent Silver Nebraska...................I strongly suspect that since my 1st go around with the Clad Sets was a return for replacement that getting good examples of any proof sets from 06 will be a challenge. As a side note, some of the coins were not even CAM's and that I find very surprising............

Yea, I just got my silver sets, and the quality is WAY down this year. Many of the coins have spots, including more than half the Sakie dollars.

How's this for Proof Sakie dollar? She looks like she as "a social disease." That's a big lamination on her cheek. I guess it's a mint error, but it sure is ugly! Seveal of these sets are headed back.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I'm glad I waited to order...then again...maybe not. I'll probably get returns when I order. image

i would advise anyone to send them back for new sets. if a person wants to collect scratched coins they can just collect pocket change. i got 10 silver proof sets and only found a contact mark on the cameo of 2 or 3 coins. nothing as bad as a scratch... send `em back!!!

This is the exact reason you should open your products purchased from the Mint.

Leaving unopened sets around does not increase their value.
    Many happy BST transactions

Here is 1 of 2 Nebraskas. Both are about the same. Sorry for the crappy scan, I still have not gotten a macro lense for my camera.

I decided that I would buy mine this year from the local coin store, and avoid the hassles of returning crappy coins....

  • I see an indent between two columns of my 2006-S cent, almost like someone indented the coin with a ballpoint pen. (Unfortunately and unexpectedly, my new scanner has a bifurcated light source, so it can't do coins or anything 3-dimensional.)

I just opened the two sets I got for my daughter. They look nice. No problems, the fields are clean and mirror-like, quite pleasant. When I opened the set, it was the first time I saw the new Jefferson nickel all year. I've seen none in circulation.

Do you suppose that they hand pick the replacements a little more carefully if you return stuff?

No. I have returned proof sets for a 2nd replacement.
  • Three out of four are perfect. (Except all the SD's are ugly.) The obverse of one Nevada has a tiny reddish circle
between the U in United and George's chin. It must be on the case, but it doesn't look like it. But I can't imagine
a reddish mark on a silver proof.

  • I am really sorry that you got scratched silver proofs. That stinks.

All of my quarters in both sets of Silver Proof Sets that I received are pristine. PR69 or even PR70 I would imagine. (Yes, I've got quite an imagination!)

I sent back two sets of Silver Proof Sets last year. I called after 6 weeks and they told me that they service current customers before they service returns. Doh! Then, after about 2 months, they returned my money via my credit card I paid with. I called again and asked what was the deal. They said I could just buy them again on the website since they were still selling them. I did. To their credit, I sent another Silver Proof Set in for exchange and they got me a replacement in 6 weeks. I was buying the sets at different times hoping to get at least one good set in the bunch.

I would send the bad sets back, but since you already opened the case, is that an option for you? I've never opened the cases, are they sealed or can you get them back together without their knowing?
