What would you do to be able to scan cards in 3-4 seconds each...and get a front and back scan of the card..at the same...?
Wait it gets better...
And to be able to put items in your own online store with a few strokes into an Excel spreadsheet?
For the last 5 years and friend and myself have been working on a system that would allow us free motion to sell between our online stores..and Ebay.
With the new system, we can can list the contents of an entire set..say a Topps 792 card set...have it up in our stores..by year...player..team...price and condition...and all in less than 15 minutes.
The system adds for favorable qualities in cards...such as 50-50 centering in the pre-80's cards...it will add a premium for NM-MT or better....while at the same time detracting for less favorable qualities..such as OC...stain...MC......
for example...you could have 2 1970 Topps cards of the same player...say they are $6.00 semi high commons...one is NM-MT and solid 50-50 centering....the other is NM and 80-20 centering...
The system will put both cards in your store and adjust the pricing...the better of the card would come out as $8.25....the lesser at $3.00.
It figuratively figures out actual selling values based on suggested book prices BY CONDITION...
In affect, pricing for actual differences in the same card...if will price each card based on it's own merits...
With all that said...you would have your own online store and image hosting. You would be able to send items right from your online store to Ebay and back...with the click of a button. If the tiems don't sell on Ebay...you could then simply add them back to your store with a couple easy moves.
Cards would be put in your online store at 100% book value....and then you as the seller can give whatever discounts you would like from there...whether it be 10%..25%..50%....and also have the choice on each item whether it can get a discount at all. So you can have a 50% off sale in your store...and still protect certain cards as no sale items.
The spreadsheet option saves alot of time for all of us. List the company, sport, card numer and condition....and have the option to make adjustments for centering. Process the the spreadsheet with just that ino...and it will fill in the auction/store title....add the players name and team...and send it to the proper spot in the online store.
You can add items to your store as fast as you can type!!
The problem has been for all of us is keeping up with scanning!!!!
What's the average?? 30-40 seconds a scan?? 50-60 items per hour...
How many of us have litterally THOUSANDS of cards that we would like to sell off...but just don't have time to scan and list them all...
We have been working with a developer to make a scanner that can scan cards, in protective holders...at the rate of 3-4 seconds each. They suggest that 900 scans an hour is feasible.
So imagine scanning cards as fast as you can feed them into the scanner. AND each card is scanned front and back!!
Our system marries up your scanned images with your spreadsheet (from above)...and put everything live online in a few seconds.
We are thinking of trying to market it soon, once any and all bugs are found..
Right now the scanners are $1300....and the protective holders have to be custom made for the machine (the molds have been ordered)...
But what would you as sellers and collectors be willing to pay to be able to list endlessly online?
Your own online store and image hosting...tutorials on the product and 24/7 LIVE tech support from the developers, not some hourly stooge...the scanner and supplies for your own level of use...the ability to go back and fourth between Ebay and your site....realistic selling values for your cards based on a plus/minus system....the more you can list, the more you can sell..
Ever want to be able to list every card that is sitting in the closet? No one can buy them, if they don't know you've got them...
Everything included and the ability to list and sell tens of thousands of cards in a fraction of the time....what's it all worth??
It may never come to fruition....but if it does...what's your take on it??
Wait it gets better...

The scanner sounds very promising. If you could automate the cropping and image adjusting that would be very nice.
Currently my process is:
Load scanner with four cards, scan, reduce image size, sharpen image, crop image 1, save image 1, undo crop, crop image 2, save image 2, undo crop, crop image 3, save image 3, undo crop, crop image 4, save image 4.
I would pay to be able to get down to Load Scanner, scan, save image 1, save image 2, save image 3, save image 4.
the upright scanner is fast feed...you just sit there and feed the cards in....the go through rollers and are gravity fed out the back...you can't keep up with the machine...lol
no cropping...recoloring..resizing...it does all that and saves the images.
The spreadsheet is used instead of a mass bulk upload system. No typing urls...no typing descriptions....the system fills all that in for you...sets your titles....starts your auctions..or adds to store inventory.
The system is used with Ebay and Ebay stores....you can list some thing on your own site...and have them on Ebay concurrently...and/or/both...
Say you had 15K items in your online store....not alot of people are going to want to have 15K Ebay store items....this system allows for you to go back and fourth....list as many or as little as you want...
