Before or After.....Opinions...It's a VAM too!

Felt like cracking this one out.....thought it would be worth a shot. Any opinions on before and after grades?

Both ways look good, but I am fond of the original look. What was the original grade?

I just couldn't stand looking at that spot on the back...and thought if there was some nice underlying luster it might gain a point...

I like both versions of the coin. I prefer buying original coins, but the dip didn't seem to hurt.

Question: is the obversed doubled? Liberty's forehead looks strange.

I think the dip helped, especially with the brown spot on the reverse. VAM 3, BTW. Doubled obverse (see the D in GOD) and medium, filled D mintmark.

I like the original look of the before coin better than the after coin.

Either coin looks fine, the dip did not strip it too badly. Both coins would probably grade MS-63, shot 64.

I think the dip improved the coin and made it more marketable, though I really hate to ever say that. The marks that were much more muted with the toning stand out now. The distance to possibly earning an MS64 has probably been expanded to an unbridgeable extent. The strike is brought out better now, though that might be just the images. Nice VAM-3.

It would not surprise me one bit, even after this recent dip, to see this in a Heritage catalogue described as displaying full, original mint lustre.

Did you just wash it with soap and warm water? Did you paint it silver?
