Wacky Packages..how do you identify what year??

Hey Mark (morrellman)...I just picked up a pile of them today. Some have white backs and some have brown backs...none have years or card numbers on them. How do I tell which year they are, I know they were around for a while. Thanks-Claude

The top three are the 2nd series. The white/tan backs make no difference here. They're great, aren't they? Do you have any "Run Tony" stickers?

The bottom three are from the 6th series.

BTW the 2nd series is definitely from 1973. The 6th series is I think from 1974.

Thanks for the help. I also just found a web site that lists all the cards and which series they are from. I picked up 75 cards, most are from the 2nd thru 5th series. They are pretty cool....I remember them as a kid growing up in the 70's...had my headboard of my bed covered with the stickers!!!

I am a pretty big collector of Wacky Packages from the '70's so feel free to ask any questions.

I appreciate the help from everyone...I am normally a baseball card guy so these are a new area for me. Is it a good idea to get them graded by PSA??? I wouldn't get all graded due to condition, but a good grouping are probably psa 7/8's? I also have an Ebay store and sell on there..do you think there would be a market for graded stickers??

You could take a crack with a few of your best from series 2, but that's as far as I'd go.

If the card will get an 8, it is worth your while. Anything less than that, forget about it. There are some rabid collectors out there for quality Wackies. PSA grades them very tough, so be aware of that. I have graded about 200 and have generally done quite well.

Now I remember collecting Wacky Packages from about 79-83, I looked on the registry and noticed their was not a set listed for any of those years that I collected them. What is the deal with that? I remember picking them up at local Richdale stores so I know they made them during those years. Maybe you guys can answer

    Thank You

Yes indeed there were many sets/series of Wacky Packages sold during those years. The value of those, however, are generally significantly lower than for pre-1979 Wackies. As for thr registry, very few sets have ever been added to date, but a whole bunch are currently in the submission process to be added. In fatc, 1973 Series 2 was just added yesterday.

If you want to see some of the older ones, I have included scans of almost all of my Wackies that currently exist in the Registry.

    Mike,
Thank you very much for clearing that up for me, I knew I wasn't ripping open Wacky packs in '73 LOL
