Trades that never happened - Guidry to Blue Jays, Roy Halladay to Rockies

Just read a great article from Geoff Baker of the Toronto Star about trades the Blue Jays never made. Here's a summary of some of the trades the Jays never made (the full article is on www.waymoresports.com):

- 2005: Alex Rios and Orlando Hudson OR Miguel Batista to Texas for Kevin Mench (Phew! Rios is a stud)
- 1977: Bill Singer (a Jays pitcher at the time) for a hot young Yankees prospect named Ron Guidry
- 2001: Roy Halladay and Chris Carpenter OR Vernon Wells for Pedro Astacio (Can you imagine if the Jays swung this one?)

  • Scary to think about Halladay/Carpenter going for Astacio. I guess when the Jays backed out, the Rockies must have thought they made the trade for their future by acquiring Scott Elarton from Houston.

To think where the Jays would be now...
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

I wish the Red Sox didn't need pitching to make the Playoffs in 1990 and trade Jeff Bagwell to the Astros. Just who the heck is Lary Anderson anyway?

How about contracts that never happened. Like Juan Gonzalez's 140 million dollar deal from the Tigers.

I still get queasy thinking about that.

One dubious move that the Jays did make was trade Michael Young to the Rangers for (gulp) Esteban Loiza.

    That one still hurts.
