.............that were to colorful for me to pass on it.

For details on Hair Toning, keep reading.

The set cost $12.00 so I could not resist. The dime also has toned, but the color is an ugly mottled grey. The compartments containing the cent, dime and nickel are not sealed off from each other, however as the heat seal between the compartments was not complete. The compartments for the quarter and half are sealed completely and these two coins have not toned at all.

The funny thing though is that I suspect that the mint cello is not original mint cello and instead is post minting cello prepared by a private party into which the 5 coins and mint proof set seal were inserted.

Why do I suspect this? Because inside of the cello compartments for the cent, dime and nickle are numerous dark hairs (they look like hairs from a black cat or small black dog). Has anyone seen hairs or other foreign matter inside of OGP for 55-64 proof sets? I have not and that leads me to belief that the cello is not the original mint packaging.

In any event the cent and dime have great color, I guess from the hairs.

A new way to doctor coins, the Hair Toning method.

It's probably original mint celo. I've seen debris of various sorts in these before, and the ones that contain nice toners are seperated most of the time. The nickel in the set likely isn't worth squat as the market for these is in the dumper. The Lincoln, however, could be a hit. I've sold some PCGS graded toned 1961 proofs at stupid money.

Thank you Russ for the information.

Do you think I should cut out the toned coins or just leave them for now in the hair filled cello.
