Help ( I hate the usa mint )

Well another good customer service problem with the Mint.
I hate the mint ..............................
I was out of town and I called this morning to up date my credit card and they said they had cancelled my Ben franklin order.
They said the card had expired. I asked why did they not call or email me about this. She said they do not notify people when their credit card has expired. I explained that i was out of town. She said to bad. But yet on their website from jan 17, 2006 it shows my back order on hold or will not ship till some time in May. Why did they not ship them with my first order of Ben's in late january. Any other coin business that I do business with never causes problems like this. They always work with me. I have never in my life seen a business run like the mint.............I had my heart set on these Ben's and now I will have to buy them second hand market in which people will mark up the prices very high. The mint has had all Ben's in stock for months. Why do they break up these shipments ????? Why did they not ship everything together in January with my first release of Ben's????? Plus they never can give you a date when they will bill your credit card.
If any one out their could sell me some Ben's let me know. If anyone has any ideals to help me please let me know...................
thanks Brent....

Since you hate the Mint, stop doing business with them. That will solve your problem.image

  • Man!-I know how you feel--a cop stopped me and gave me a ticket for a expired license-I asked him why he didn't tell me so i could renew it-sounds like a scam to me!!!

They did clearly state to use a credit card that way not expiring for a while so this would not be an issue.....

The Mint shipped the Franklins when they were finished... zero were shipped in January, I believe they all were shipped in April. That was the first release of coins. I guess the moral to the story is pay attention to your credit card expiration date.

  • This is not a pile on, and I do not wish to see that happen.

Believe it or not, there is alot of agreement that the Mint sucks. We know that. However, in all honesty, the operator I spoke with was explicit on this point as well.....

  • << <i>Snip> Why did they not ship them with my first order of Ben's in late january. < >>

Because you never had a shipment of Ben's in January?

  • You would think with a big out fit like the mint they would have better public customer service department. Example: How many people on this forum like the mints webs site ???. I think it is one of the poorest sorry website that I have seen or done business with. Remember everyone trying to order these Ben Franklins...It took me One hour and 10 minutes to process my order. This is just a prime example of the mints poor record which has been and will be until they change their website and know how to do business and make their customers happy........
When I did receive my First order of Bens 3 box's out of 5 were damaged with torn lids. That should have never left the mint. I have talked to many people and have seen many people express on the web their disguise of torn damaged material leaving the mint.
    No excuse for this...
and just think how much people spend on the mint ordering coins, they should be able to do a better job. The mint should have called me or emailed me. I was out of town on emergency and could not get back in time to up date my credit card. They should have been able to resolve this issue and made me a happy customer. I spend about $ 200 a month on the mint website and this is how they handle my problem and many others.
And yes, I can stop doing business with the mint like one person suggest. But is this the answer to poor service and procedures and a very poor run web site. No the answer should be...the mint is providing a service that should be above and beyond all service for all customers................period.............
    thank you.

The mints web site fits its need nearly every day of the year, 2 days a year they might have an issue and the site slows down..... It is simply not worth spending all the money to try and fix that problem.....

It gets dealt with by the customers, the coins did not sell out that afternoon either, so you could have waited till the next day and had no problem.....

You are a name and a number to them, they don't care what you order from them or how often.....

Customer services is never perfect, will never be perfect, any place or any time period.....

I like their website and have never had a problem dealing with the mint.

It sounds like you screwed the pooch by not checking the expiration date on your CC and now pass the blame on to the mint. THEN, when you get no sympathy here, you just outright bltch about the mint to detract from your original screw up.

  • They did clearly state to use a credit card that way not expiring for a while so this would not be an issue.....

Yes, they did state clearly NOT to use a credit card that will expire before the backorder date. I have my issues with the out-sourced mint customer service, but in this case they did warn repeatedly to use a credit card that would be good though the main part of this year or to update them well before the backorder date on a new card, so it's not the Mint's fault in this case, sorryimage

  • Who do you think you are Mr. outhaul.............I can see that you are a very understanding person. Read my post.... I was out of town on a emergencyand could not make it back in time to update my card. The mint said that they were not going to ship until May 22, 2006. I called two days ago. A week before they ship should be good. Its not if I called two weeks from now. I am upset because of the procedures that the mint has...They need a better web site Period....
Better customer service on how to deal better with their customers....and not be so greedy......Why did they have to raise their prices so high for the gold eagles on their web site...greed..thats why...Just plain greed.....
I work in a top 500 company and treat and deal with my customers a lot better than the mint ever has.
So Mr. Outhaul you can take that to the moon and smoke it....................................................

I went through this with the Marine proofs. They took so long to ship that my Visa had expired and the bank had issued a new numbered card and they had marked my order on hold and to cancel. Needless to say, I was furious and told them that if I didn't receive the order that it would be my last order. Someway they believed me and reinstated the order which I received.

  • Just buy a set off ebay. It's not the end of the world. The prices of ungraded sets are not that much more than US Mint price + shipping.

<< <i>Why did they not ship everything together in January with my first release of Ben's????? >>

As stated by another member...Because you never had a shipment of Ben Franklins in January. They were not released yet.

<< <i>I was out of town and I called this morning to up date my credit card >>

That was pretty stupid of you not to have ensured that your CC was not going to expire before the projected ship date as they asked. Unless, of course, you intended to provide a good CC # before the projected ship date. In which case you forgot to do it on time or were otherwise occupied and didn't get around to it. Either way, it's YOUR fault, not the mint's.

What, as a bullshltter? Because that's what this alleged problem is. You screwed up, facrissake, admit it! Just suck it up and buy your friggin Franklins off eBay or something and get on with your life...assuming you have one.

BTW...since when does YOUR emergency become the problem of the US Mint?

Uh, since you were out of town, if they had called or emailed you wouldn't have answered and they would have cancelled the order anyway.

When my credit card had a problem, they DID call me and they notified me in writing so that I could correct the situation.

That was late Feb/early March and not 2 days before the release date.

    ROTFLMAO

I have to agree. Look, I am a mainframe geek and trust me, depending on what index folks look at, top 500 is right up there with "new and improved" read as, it sucks.

There are no excuses for the behavior displayed by the author of this thread. The assumption is that when they spend money, they buy a servant, not a service. Luckily, I have learned that this is reallty the same behavior that folks exhibit towards prostitutes and in reality, I shun the freaks. I live in Northern VA and I love meeting folks who blow smoke about their 6 figure incomes etc etc etc. Fact is, almost everyone in the area does. So what? The mint does not care. Go to Ebay, a coin shop and pay a premium or get a straw and suck it up.

Money does not buy enough to tolerate this twisted cry for help.

BY THE WAY, The opeerator I spoke with at the mint was a wonderful lady with a southern accent and we discussed family while she very carefully processed my order which arrived in a timely fashion perfectly packaged. NOW, the packaging is cheap and sub par but this is not a reflection on the person who processed the order. AND the Mint did indeed fvck up in their scheduling of when or when not to expect the coins themselves. So, yes, that did suck. HOWEVER, the coins themselves were great, IMO.

Then there is the really bad news. Look at your pay checks. Notice the deduction for Federal Taxes? Guess who is supporting and paying for the USMint?

  • The Mint is making money. In fact, they are becoming a cash cow. WHY NOT pay taxes on an entity that can generate revenue?

No one. The Mint operates at a surplus returning more money to the Treasury than it takes.
