Looked like an Older Sample Slab so I bought it!!!!

Not sure if this is worth a premium since it's in an older slab but yes....I bought the plastic and not the coin image I just like the older slabs and I don't have any sample slabs so I thought this would be an interesting trinket to add to my collection.....too bad it's not toned image

1943 Steel Cent Sample

Any thoughts on this one.....when was NGC using this particular slab???

Thanks

Here's Conder101's NGC slab history in case you don't have it.

You should probably send Cameron (kieferscoins) a pm about sample slab pricing, since he's not on the boards as much as he used to be. If he's not up on slab pricing anymore, he should know who is.

    Nice sample, by the way!

I stepped out and bought my first sample slab a few weeks ago for $6. The early ogh (non-rattler) PCGS holder housed a '64 Kennedy half in MS64. So with silver going up I just may make money on the coin alone. I didn't realize sample slabs came along this late but this may have introduced PCGS's hat into the ring for grading later moderns. The coin has NO upgrade potential image

IMO the price you paid may be a tad high, but the low slab number 005 is a good thing.

Here is my latest sample, the coin is closer to a 63 then a 60 IMO, heck I think itza 63 all day long and I love the number.......001

  • I thought the price might have been a little high but since I am too lazy to sit and watch auctions....I hit the BIN anyway image

I don't have a slabbed Steel Cent anyway so what the heck......it's all about having fun right image

Considering it is an earlier sample slab, and a steel cent I think the price you paid was reasonable. Even common recent samples can bring $8 to $12. This is a slightly tougher piece.

In my numbering system this looks to be an NGC 4S2

Any idea on the value PCGS version 2 rattlers, the ones with the serial number and the MS dime?

Yes I have to agree with Condor, I was thinking $8 to $15, heck I have over 200 different sample slabs and have over paid for 80%

    of them.image
