Anyone bidding on items in the Joe DiMaggio Hunt Auction?

I went to the preview last night. It is a bit creepy, kind of like going to an estate sale. They are selling furniture from his home, his shower sandals, about 10 sets of golf clubs, all kinds of stuff.

The things that really got me were the personal effects between Joe and Marilyn, like the Marriage Certificate, Divorce Papers, his wallet with a picture of Joe Jr. and a love letter from Marilyn, etc.

In 1998, Steinbrenner presented DiMaggio with replacements of about 10 World Series rings that were stolen from Joe in the 60s. Those are all up for sale. The auction estimate is 10-15K, I'd be surprised if the go for under 50K.

I guess his granddaughters don't want the stuff, but it seems a bit like selling a man's soul.

I could sell my house and I still wouldn't have the firepower to win anything nice.

They did the same thing with the Maris estate a while back. It was pretty wierd. One thing from that auction I would like to have bought was a traphy he had recieved from a golf course for making a hole in one. For some reason I just thought that was pretty cool.

It's hard to forget about the money they're getting, but if they don't really treasure the stuff it's better that it's available to collectors than sitting in a basement or warehouse somewhere getting ruined.

I can't afford any of it so not even gonna look!

I dunno - I frankly cannot believe how much 'stuff' was kept of his. It basically sounds like it could fill an airline hangar with all of DiMaggio's "stuff" that was saved over the years.

I'm a collector and all - but when it comes to life-type things that I save, I much prefer to be a minimalist.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

It sounds like a lot of stuff, but the whole preview (minus the Mercedes) was in a room about 20 X 50.

I just finished reading a book about DiMaggio and it touched on his "stuff". The writer said he kept everything, and being who he was, people were more than happy to give him stuff for free. Even if he had a few of an item, he would never say no to more.

    Looking for Carl Willey items.
