............ and thought I would tell the tale of my most recent "Silver Strike".
I took an early lunch and went to a local pizza/sandwich shop to get a sandwich and iced tea. On paying for meal, the guy workin gthe cash register handed me bills and change, including the 1954 D half. Surprise, suprise. It is well circulated and thus "junk silver". However, it is way cool to have an actual commercial transaction in 2006 yiled a Franky in change. BTW, a few weeks ago I also received a 1956 Roosevelt dime in change at a coffee shop.
Apparently 40+ years after 1964 ended, Silver coinage is still out there circulating in the channels of commerce.
Way Cool Daddy-O, where is my muscle car and my best girl, I feel like taking a drive to the local burger drive through, listening to Buddy Holly while I Rock Around The Clock and checking out the local submarine races.

I believe it is Conder101 (or maybe Cladking?) who speculates that it's the proliferation of CoinStar machines that have helped reintroduce lots of older stuff to circulation.
I think it's that plus the release of the state quarters that has gotten people used to spending strange looking change without thinking about what it might be.
