This is more a public service announcement as I have no ownership interest in the coin for sale. I received this raregoldcoins.com (Doug Winter) email special offer today, and, miraculously, it is still available. If I did not already own one, I would have jumped all over this one. I thought a fellow forum member might be interested. It is truly a rare coin and my favorite Philly date in the $3 series.
"1865 THREE DOLLAR GOLD PIECE
PCGS GRADED VERY FINE-20
The 1865 is one of the rarest issues in the entire Three Dollar gold piece series. Only 1,140 were issued of which probably no more than 100 or so are known today. It is a much rarer coin than the heralded 1854-D and is harder to find than even the low mintage 1873. Only the 1877 is rarer, among issues that were produced for circulation.
This coin, while well worn, is surprisingly free of problems. It has medium rose and orange-gold color atop evenly worn surfaces. The detail is excellent for the grade. This is clearly one of the most affordable slabbed examples of this date that is known and it would make a great addition to a savvy collector’s holdings.
PCGS has only slabbed fifty-seven examples in all grades of which this coin is one of just four graded below EF40. Trends is $2500 in VF20, which seems very low considering that it is $2200 in Fine.

I reiterate, I do not have an ownership interest in this coin and nothing to gain here other than the pleasure of knowing that a fellow forumite might end up with this cool coin. Believe me, DW does not need me hawking coins for him.
