New ANACS Slab

I just received my first new ANACS slab.

I thought I would like it but in person it's junky. It looks like a kid's toy, not the holder of valuables.

I think ANACS ought to change course on this one. I wouls suggest scrapping this design and buying the SEGS slab or redesigning the old ANACS slab by adding a clear, pebbled gasket.

What do you think of the new holder? What would you advise ANACS?

I don't like the slab at all either, and I would advise much the same as you have.
    When in doubt, don't.

James: I am in total agreement with you and Dennis. I do not like the new ANACS slabs one bit!! image

I totally agree. I used to really like ANACS' product. Now its crap.

BTW, SEGS holders are incredibly tough to crack open, they look great and are the way to go IMO....love the info on the top.

I finally got my coins back from ANACS and I find them clean, clear and open.

I think this is the slab of the future. Take a deep breath boys: Things CHANGE! image

I like it, but it needs to be made stronger.

The slabs are cheesy, but that crystal clear plastic is sure nice for imaging.

The slab looks cheap and the coins I have seen in them look even worse.

  • I like their old slabs not the new ones. image

Maybe this should have been a poll and then get them to look at the results and feedback.

I don't like the new ANACS slabs. Only because they are to flimsy (crackable by accidents).
SEGS, NGC and PCGS holders are better.

SEGS slabs are nice but they need a larger font.

I talked to ANACS at the TNA show, let them know that I thought the new slab was
cheesy looking. I asked if you could get the old style slabs on request. The answer was

The SEGS slab is the best on the market. And their grading is not as bad as generally perceived, at least in my experience.

I also spoke to ANACS reps at the TNA--they claimed that the ability to open the slab easily had been remedied.

To me, the new slabs look crappy.

I like the clear plastic, the clear "grommet", and the fact that the coin looks lik it is floating in air. I also like the label that can also be read from the top.

I hadn't heard that they have remedied the "easy to crack open" problem. Can anyone verify this from personal experience?

They made the same claim to me at the Central States show but reports from people who received new slabs after that date stated that the slabs could still be opened very easily and cleanly.

I disagree about the cracking cleanly.... I have sold several anacs new holder slabs and the customers told me they were going to crack em out.....when they mention this I have asked if they would do it in front of me or let me do it....4 times we did it and each time they break easy BUT NOT CLEANLY....

  • ANACS went from the best slab (old small slab) to one of the worst in my opinion.
  • poorguypoorguy Posts: 4,317
Also notice that if you press moderately hard (pinch) where the coin is between your fingers, the plastic will actually bend and rub on the coin from both sides.

Yes, I do not like the new slab either. I would much rather their old slab design or like folks have mentioned, SEGS's slab.

The new slab looks like it should be holding a piece of candy rather than a rare and valuable coin.

After I finally had some of them im in hand, I dont like them. Many of them appeared to be put together poorly with many dings and scratches. Ii agree with many of you, they need to go back to the old slab with a clear gasket.
  • I bought a "First Strike" 2006 SAE in one.

image The coin was over graded and the new holder is cheeeeeeeeeeeesy.

I gave it away to a non-collector friend.

I collect Morgans and all of them are in older ANACS holders. I love the smaller holders and have yet to see a newer one in person. I'll reserve judgement until I do.

I will admit I've only been purchasing slabbed Morgans in older ANACS or PCGS holders and have avoided newer ANACS on Ebay or Heritage.

I don't mind the holder, but the label is still an abomination. It looks so third-world -- very unprofessional.

I long for the days of the small white holder with the boring monospaced font. Not fancy -- pure business.

    New ANACS Slab...

Are still weak and flimsy. The "updated" slab, instead of breaking at the seams, will shatter once you twist them with your bare hands.

No grading company holder should break by twisting them without the aid of tools.

  • I haven't tried it yet because I want to keep it, but I think that a person could pretty easily crack that slab open with their bare hands. I don't like it either.

Doh!, I see that this has already been discussed. image
