wtb/Recommendations for a metal detector

Good morning all, I am considering buying a metal detector, probably used and would appreciate any input as to what to look for in a fairly decent one. My use would be mainly back yard/field type stuff. I have never done this before but think it might be interesting but don't really want to spend a ton of money at this time.

    look for a used garrett 500 gta, that is what i have, nice machine, easy to use, only thing is you don't find many nickels only found less than ten of them in about 7 years

    You are running your descrimination too high...cut it back some, and research places you have already found coins...

    I have a bit of money socked away in my paypal if anyone has a good used one for sale. I am watching a couple on ebay, a garrett and a white.
