1984 O-Pee-Chee Box Break

Picked up a box of 84 OPC and 2 Boxes of 91 OPC from Pittsburgh Wholesalers (I think that is the name). Great service, would reccomend.

Anyway, pulled 2 Mattingly's and most of the stars - Gwynn and Gooden were the only cards I didnt pull in terms of big names (not that Gooden is worth anything but still a key card in my eye).

The Mattingly's look nice to me but the pop report shows it is a very tough grade with only 3 10's and more than 50% at 8 or less.

I need a Reggie Jackson if you got one in 9 or 10 quality.

  • I think I pulled 3 Jacksons and will post scans for you but from memory I think they were off center with a very thin right border.

Heading to dinner, will post scans of Jackson later tonight or tomorrow for u.

    Nice Mattingly...

By the way, you won't find a Gooden or Gwynn in any boxes of 84 OPC, they aren't in the set. Gooden's 84 card is part of the traded set, and the OPC set only has 396 cards, Gwynn is not one of them.

I also opened a box of 1984 OPC that I bought off of ebay.

We opened it one night as family.....to tell you the truth,
most of cards were suprisingly centered well....pulled
a couple Nolan Ryans and others....sent the Ryans in
for grading along with some others....will let you know
    how it pans out.

Looking forward to the case of 1987 OPC that I bought
of ebay....should be a great family outing on that one!

My wife and daughter don't care too much for cards,
but they both absolutely LOVE to open packs with me.
It's good clean fun for all!

I'd be interested in any Buckner's that you pulled.

Nice Mattingly OPC. I prefer the OPC's to the Topps. They seem (key word SEEM) more scarce and have better cardboard stock. Rough cuts don't bother me at all.

If you don't mind me asking, how much does an '84 OPC wax box run these days? I'm not much of a wax guy so I have no clue.

i pulled a mattingly OPC from a wax pack but unfortunately the gum was stuck to it and resulted in minor paper loss on the back.. otherwise it was a mint card with good centering..

coincidentally, i ended up sending the card to "Toppscol1ector" on here as a freebie, he then ended up ripping off a couple people i think on some fairly big trades i think..

  • both of my Mattingly's from the original post came back as 9's as well. I have 2 more in with the March special, would be nice to have a 10!

I agree I got no 10s on my 84 OPC submissions. I do have one card from 84 OPC that is a psa 10. Ron Cey. In my opinion the Cey card is same quality as the Mattingly but I am not the professional graders...

Here they are side by side...
