Nice 1975 Topps Rack Break - Got the Yount!

I broke 3 1975 Racks this week and pulled some nice cards.

Some stats - Out of 126 cards, 29 were way o/c or miscut. Out of remaining 97, 26 strike me as 9's or 10's. Got 7 doubles out of 126 (sadly not Yount).

Stars pulled: Yount, Rice RC, Hernandez RC, Seaver, Perry, F. Robby, and a fair amount of mid-level guys and mvp's.

Tragedy - The Rice RC looks like it was cut out by my 2 year old daughter. Way short L/R with a hook cut, it is sadly ungradeable.

Money - Too much. I'll need 3 or 4 10's to break even - or a 9 on the Yount and a couple of 10's.

History - I broke 2 racks last month and pulled the Brett RC which was 10-ish save for a touched corner. Pulled 2 10's and some low-pop 9's that paid for the rest of the racks. I am viewing it as a parlay.

With the racks and the fart, I am definitely on a roll...

BTW, sorry for the low resolution scans - the corners are nicer, but didn't want to size them too large.

Way to go, Mike!! Have you mentioned in other threads where you bought the racks??

As I've talked about before, the '70s were a big black hole in my card collecting experience due to the service and college. After seeing displays like these '75s, I feel a little cheated. But then again, the "distractions" I had in the '70s provided some fine memories ( image ) I wouldn't trade for anything in the world.

Those were some wild, colorful years...

  • Great pulls congratulations!! I mean I have no idea how much the racks cost you, but you did pull the best outta them. I think that Yount is atleast a solid 9 imo.

That rack box went about $1,000 past my snipe. Way too high.

$140 - $220 seems to be the going rate. BBCExchange sold me his last one @$220 (Lynn RC on top). A Yount on top Rack just went for $400+ though. Seems like a lot of guys know some patterns (or think they do), because some are finishing $60 or $70 higher than others with nobody good showing and all other things being equal.

  • ^Whoa. I had no idea they were that much(I have mostly modern, but I'm getting more and more vintage stuff, way to many products/brands on the market; total oversaturation.)

  • I think that Carew batting leader has a real shot at a 10. Great pulls!
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12
