Copper vs zinc

This started over on the US forum, but I was wondering is can you use a metal detector to distinguish between a copper cent and a zinc one? I mean, all other things being equal. So for example you have two pennies sitting on the floor where you can pass your coil over each one at the same distance.

  • With the detector I use it is pretty easy to tell the differance. Typically "Zincolns" always ring lower on the conductivity scale than their copper counterparts whether in the ground or above it on my Garrett.

Funny. I was thinking about this earlier today. Using my detector to seperate my '82 coppers from the "82 zincs. Should be fairly easy.
