70 Greatest Redskins

In June 2002, to honor the Redskins' 70th anniversary, a blue-ribbon panel selected the 70 Greatest Redskins, a prestigious group of players and coaches who were significant on-field contributors to the team's five world championships and magnificent history.

I would like to add this set to the registry. Below is a list of the players (and 3 coaches) and what I believe is their rookie card. Can anyone help check that I got the right rookie cards? I specifically need help with anything past 1980.

And if you happen to have any of these (or any other Redskins) in high grade, please let me know.

Thanks,
Robert

  • List is right on target Robert I would love to see this set added.
You are good with the 75 card for Joey T as psa never uses the Canadian cards like Warron Moon.
The same thing may apply to Gary Clark as we may need to use his 86 Topps card.
Got to love a set that includes my good old uncle Andy Farkas image

I used the USFL card for Clark because that's what's in the All-Time Redskins set.

I'm sure you'll also never forget Clint Longley to Drew Pearson . . .

I almost forgot Theismann's 6 interceptions on his birthday and Staubach's last regular season game comeback.

    Robert,
I'll have to check the video, but wasn't it Darryl Grant that knocked Danny out of the 82 championship game?

    Abe,

It was Dexter Manley who knocked out Danny White. Later in the game, Manley was rushing Hogeboom and Darryl Grant intercepted the pass and high stepped it into the end zone to cap a 31-17 Redskins win!!!

Yes Robert you are right on, as soon as I read it it came back to me much to clearly. The 49ers game was tough but the one that really killed me was the 82 game vs. the Skins, anybody but the Skins. That really marked the end.

Ah....pardon the interruption fellas, but if the debate is going to spin off into great NFC teams of the '70s then I would like to nominate the Vikings.

  • I saw this thread a while ago and I have tried to put together the rookie card for the 70 Greatest Redskins, including the coaches. What I came up with can be found at:

It is a fun set to put together. I am still missing four rookie cards, but I do have second year cards for those whose rookie cards I don't have.

David -- I've always hated the Redskins (too many homers in the DC area) but . . .

you've done a great job with that web site -- it's very impressive and even something a non-'Skin fan can appreciate.

    Welcome to the board!

Is anyone else here a member of the All Time Redskins registry? One of the members submitted a request to change the composition of the set so that it included the rest of the 70 Greatest list. That's an excellent idea but it was coupled with a parallel request to remove the 2000 Topps Chrome Chris Samuels card. It's an all or nothing proposition, so I reluctantly voted "no." I don't see why the two things were bound together like that. If a request were submitted to just add the rest of the list, I would support that in a heartbeat.

I voted NO for the same reason, u cant limit the set to the 70 greatest because that removes the possibility of any modern players being involved. Plus, Samuels def would make that list now if it were rechosen. I think Cooley is nearing a time where would require serious consideration also.
Looking to have some custom cuts or plain custom cards built? PM me.

I voted no and suggested to Cosetta it should be a seperate set.
There are no non-rookie cards in the all-time team sets such as the 1977 Touchdown cards.
