Impressive architecture on London Exposition medals

Over on the US board, I started a thread about a huge batch of exposition medals I purchased. I don't know much about European medals, but it was hard for these two not to catch my eye. Enjoy!

    It's amazing what a talented die-engraver can accomplish. The perspective and detail of these medals is stunning, especially when you look closely and imagine trying to create something like that. image

    image You've been showing some nice medals. Is the Weiner medal pretty thick with some actual depth to the design, or is it all from the engraving, if that makes sense?

    Cathy, glad you like them. The Weiner medal is remarkably flat. It's all a trick of the artwork. Perspective is a neat thing...

    Jacques and Leopold Wiener did series of medals depicting European Cathedrals that really show off the use of perspective in medals.
