A few BK Tigers submissions

These were part of my 6 free subs for a renewal. I'm just at a loss of words in trying to figure out what PSA is looking for in BK cards that is different from regular Topps cards. This Morris looks like an 8 so I'm happy with that. The Trammell that is off center has 8 corners but I figured I try it anyways. I guess the centering gave it a 7. If anyone can figure out the exact centering from the picture, I'd appriciate the help. I'd like to know if it's within 8 centering guidelines. The PSA 6 Trammell, believe it or not, has better corners than the 8 Morris. I thought it had a chance at a low end 9 but I felt it was a solid 8. I've been submitting cards for almost 10 years and these BK cards have got me stumped. I'm gonna resubmit the 6 and see what happens.

    Steve-
Those are tough cards for some reason. I'm surprised the 7 didn't get an 8 OC. Just looking at it, the centering doesn't fit 8 requirements.
The 6 should bump up for you.

  • I'm wondering if there will ever be a '10'.

A pretty tough issue for grading - which is why the #1 set just sold on ebay for $1100 for a $30 raw set.

I've got a BK Tigers set I bought back in '78. I may just send the whole set in for grading under the current special.
  • In Joe O's recent column, I believe that he made mention of 6's often being due to paper wrinkle on the surface. Often the back. Might be hard to see in a holder though.
Wanted: Bell Brands FB and BB, Chiefs regionals especially those ugly milk cards, Coke caps, Topps and Fleer inserts and test issues from the 60's. 1981 FB Rack pack w/ Jan Stenerud on top.

The centering and corners are miserable in this set. Be thankful for an 8, jump for joy for a 9.

  • There are also a bunch of rough cuts... you can still get a 9, but I don't like rough cuts so much.

    Hey guys,

Is it safe to say that the Morris card from this set is his most coveted card?

His regular '78 Topps is a double print and is on one of the bland "Rookie Prospects" cards.

  • I would say "yes!" Also, PSA 8 is as good as it gets right now with the Morris card.

Any reason the PSA Set Registry weighting for Trammell is 10 and Morris is 2.5?

I would weigh Trammell and Morris both as 10 and Whitaker as 5 (which he currently is).

The weighting is based solely on the price. I’ll take a look at this and send you back my recommendations.

Based on the latest pricing, the set should be weighted as follows:

    1978 BURGER KING TIGERS BASEBALL

    #8
    JACK MORRIS
    weight: 2.5
    price: $5.00

    #13
    LOU WHITAKER
    weight: 5
    price: $10.00

    #15
    ALAN TRAMMELL
    weight: 10
    price: $25.00

The rest of the cards (aside from the the checkilist, at $0.15) are valued between $0.25 - $1.00 and given a weight of '1'.

    Wouldn't that make Trammell a 10, Whitaker a 4, and Morris a 2?
  • These BK cards are absolutely brutal. I have a bunch of 1980 Phiilies, and I don't think there is a soft 9/great 8 in the whole bunch (about 1000, wax fresh.)
    Always buying 1984 Ralston Purina PSA 9s and 10s I NEED 19,21, and 29!!!

Those impossible to see surface wrinkles will always bring back a PSA 5. I've gotten dozens of them. I would understand the problem if it got a 5, but the 6 puzzles me.

Trammell is the most sought after card, mainly because he was and still is such a fan favorite. Tram prices easily out price Lou or Morris on a consistent basis.
