Bonds Refuses To Sign HR Ball

"Will you sign my ball?"

Bonds smirked and said nothing.

After his news conference, Bonds shook Oliveras' hand and took a picture with him.

"I'm happy because I got a picture and he shook my hand," he said.

There was one signature needed though. Oliveras had to sign a waiver for Bonds' reality show.

Whatever - the fan will most likely cash in on the ball by selling it for tons of money through an auction house. I'm the furthest thing from a Bonds supporter - but the fan basically won a mini-lottery by catching that ball anyway.

Personally, I don't think it will sell for a whole heluva lot. Fans are way past tired of his antics. Just sign the image ball. He ought to be thankful he still has fans that would take the time to ask for his signature. I would have told him "If you sign the ball, I'll sign the waiver." image

IMO nothing is special about # 713. 714=bucks.....715= bigger bucks.

Considering all that razzing that Bonds was getting from the Philly fans, I don't blame him for not signing it. In fact, I'm surprised he simply smiled and walked away. In the past, he would probably have told the guy to get lost.

Bonds cries and whines about being misunderstood and is always saying that he loves his fans. What a piece of $hit!!! Not even gracious enough to sign the ball for the guy...no matter what he does with it. I would have told him to shove that waiver up his A$$! I'd sell that ball in a heartbeat...it's a tainted piece of history.

All you need is one guy [like Todd MacFarlane] to want it - and it will go for tens of thousands, potentially.

Esp. if the other ones do not become available.

Did anyone even catch that the guy who caught it is in the armed forces?

We are losing lives daily overseas, and this jackass can't even sign a ball?

What a total and complete loser Bonds is.

Yeah, but this guy is not one of the Philly faithful that was giving Bonds a hard time. He is a fan of Bonds that bought the ticket to see the man play. I could see if it was a guy in a Phillies hat/jersey that had been razzing (as you put it) Bonds all night but all indications are the opposite. No excuse. image

    Big surprise.

Another day, another display of why Bonds is a classless jerk not worthy of being admired.

A shame - he has the name and the money to make the world, or his community, a much better place.

Not a surprise.....basis Barry. He had the guy that caught to ball sign a release for his reality show in return for having a pic taken with him.
Proud of my 16x20 autographed and framed collection - all signed in person. Not big on modern - I'm stuck in the past!

It will probably go for decent money. I sat several rows directly behind the guy who caught McGwire's #63 home run, and he sold it for $50,000.

  • If I were Barry Bonds, I would not do a single thing for anyone. A signature on that ball would just spike up the asking price for it, although it is NOT going to be all that high regardless. Whether Barry Bonds did roids or not, whether he is liked or not, he is NOT obligated to sign autographs for anyone. Just because Barry Bonds is a rich ball player, people think he is obligated to sign for fans, but the last time I saw, Pete Rose is not signing for free either. Roids, wrong or right, saved the game of baseball, and Barry was NOT the first to take them if he did, will not be the last one either. I see all kinds of talk about the "Barry Bonds rookie card" that has been posted on this board, and how everyone gets offended at a picture, because there is a kid involved. Imagine what kind of hell the kids of Barry are taking, whether you like Bonds or not, his kids are still young, and they do hear things also. If I were a ball player, and fans treated me the way Barry is being treated now, you can surely bet I will do as little as I can for anyone, basically, I would show up to team meetings and games, and nothing else will mean squat to me. Also, years and years ago, players used to dope up on speed for games, so this generation of ball players are NOT the only performance enhancers there ever was, or ever will be. And, as he said many times, "I'm Barry Bonds, and you're not," that is true, and I hope be blows all these records out of the water, because, roids or not, in his prime, he was the best player in baseball out of the last 50 or so years, if not, the best of all time. Oh, and by the way, anyone who made money off Barry Bonds' rookie cards, because they have spiked up in price in recent years, then you should NOT say a single thing about how Bonds did it or not, because if he did take them, you benefitted off cheating also!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wont sign your ball, but sign this waiver to appear on my reality TV show to show people how misunderstood I am.......
  • Thing is, everyone plays Barry Bonds out as if he is a bad and evil man, if they do, why not play the part? It is not like that fan is going to keep the ball, it will be sold in the near future, and it is Barry's right to refuse to sign anything, I would not doubt, in private, the fan asked for a sig on the sweet spot, without any personalization. The fan also did NOT have to sign a waiver to be in his show either, I am sure there is some profitability for the fan in that. Now if Barry did sign that ball, people will just say, "Oh, he only signed that ball so people may say that is great," so Barry is in a lose-lose situation regardless. I do not much like Barry Bonds either, but that is my right, but I do not bash him, I do not like him, because I am used to solid professionals here in Detroit, laugh at our sports teams for whatever, but we had players like Al Kaline, Gordie Howe, Barry Sanders, and Steve Yzerman, probably the most professional of professionals in their game, if not, of all time. Whatever Barry did or did not do, I will wait until I see a failed drug test, verified by a notary public, with two forms of ID, because if he did it, he is NOT the first, and surely will not be the last. If Alex Rodriguez gets up there in HRs, people will say the same things about him, but then again, maybe not, because he is now a Yankee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ive said it before, but if it were Griffey Jr. or someone that everyone liked, the story would have been about the ass who caught the ball and didnt give it to Griffey.

    Bonds doesnt owe anybody anything.

He owes that serviceman who is fighting for Bonds' right to freedom. He owes that serviceman at least a signature and a handshake, for risking his life so barry can make untold millions hitting a ball and being a complete ass.

Absolutely he does...exactly who is paying his paycheck? Don't play naive and say the owners, because we all know it's the fans who put their butts in the seats, who buy the jerseys, who pay for the (overpriced) concessions...all of these says he DOES owe that fan a signature.

And if Bonds truly was trying to play the 'bad guy', then why would he have these fake moments of 'waaah the whole world hates me!' and do the stupid Paula Abdul dress up thing? He's as phony as they come, and he had the opportunity to actually do a good thing, and, in typical barry fashion, BLEW IT.

Barry owes everything he has to the fans who have supported him his entire career...but barry only sees the world with barry in it.

The sooner he quits and leaves the game the better. He's a blight on the game of baseball.
