Oilers down, 2 zip in the series. Are they just giving the Sharks a head start, cuz they're a bunch of nice guys? image

Just for the record, I know squat about hockey, I just root for the local team. Go Sharks!

"Do not ask for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee".

I don't have anything against the Oilers, but they're just not a very good team. And I don't believe I'm past posting here, since as I recall I said this before this series started. I have SJ in 6 in my pool, and that's looking pretty good now.

Best of luck on a comeback, Knuckles, since I'd really like to see a Canadian team win the Cup. It's just that I don't see it coming to Alberta this year.

I'm not a huge hockey fan either, but you have to love the fact that almost anyone can win the cup on a year to year basis.

Boopotts - you can see from my avatar where my allegiance lies, but I have to disagree with you about the Oilers not being a very good team. This has been a great series to watch so far, and not just because the Sharks are up.

After the first round I would have preferred the Sharks play Colorado or even Calgary to the Oilers. The Oil are fast, young and very skilled with the puck and play a very enjoyable brand of hockey to watch. They match up well against the Sharks and I think all the games between the teams were one goal affairs or the Oil won in shootouts (Sharks just sucked royally in shootouts this season). These two games have been two of the best games at the Tank all season. The Sharks are beating them because one, they are playing incredibly strong defensive hockey, and two, they are much bigger as a team and have been able to dominate the boards. They simply haven't made many mistakes yet in this series. Hard to believe they have SIX rookies in the lineup!

The Oilers may also be hampered by the crappy ice surface in San Jose. In a poll, I believe taken during the 2002-03 season it was voted one of the three worst sheets in the league. This is due to the fact that team management feels that fan comfort is more important than having good ice. The ice gets soft and slushy, the puck bounces a lot and players fall when they try to make tight turns because the ice just falls apart. I've played a few adult league games on that ice, without the TV lights on, and I'm a TERRIBLE skater but even I can tell it's a crappy surface.

Needless to say, looking forward to the next two games up north. I'll have my ass planted firmly in the couch, broom in hand...

Hey Boopotts, I've been laughing about what you said regarding Ryan image . He really does have the ability to look like a AAA Bantam, heh heh.

Oh well, the reason I like him is because of his selfless play and his courage when he's going to get hit. Also the fact that he just never stops giving 110%. I also like him because if you threw a pair of black framed glasses on him, he would look like the fourth Hanson Brother imageimage
  • I am a die hard Sharks fan, since the Cow Palace days, but I have to disagree when you say the Oilers are not very good team. They beat the Red Wings, who were one of the bests in the regular season, and are playing in the second round (which means at this time, they are one of the 8 best teams). I certainly think we have not seen the best from the Oilers in this series, except from Roloson who IMO is playing great. The Oilers are being beat by SJ's young defensemen, who are playing like vets, and by the third and four lines. Right now that is were this series is being won. Oilers first two line match up well, but SJ's bottom lines are playing above themselves.

What they said! image I can't wait to see them play here at home - best ice in the league, I think it makes a world of difference for this club. If they win these two at home watch out. image

I'm trying to get some decent tickets, watching it on TV sucks after you've already been spoiled by going to a playoff game.

No team with Chris Pronger can win in the playoffs. But take solace, Knuckles, in the fact that you're going to lose to the 2005-06 Stanley Cup Champions.

I propose a gentlemen's bet. If Buffalo and SJ hook up in the finals we bet a card with an SMR of 5$ or less-- loser gets to decide what to send.

Sounds good, Boo. I thought New Jersey would steamroll its way to the finals, but it's getting harder and harder to doubt the Sabres. And good for them, really. But I can't resist a friendly token wager.
