Malaysia issues coins to enhance awareness of endangered species

KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's central bank issues its third series of coins series for creating public awareness of endangered animals and birds in Malaysia, the bank said here Monday.

The coin series with the theme "Endangered Marine Animals and Reptiles" is part of the bank's Coins in Education Program, it said in a statement.

The new series will be available to the public in 12 issues representing 12 selected endangered marine animals and reptiles, the bank said.

The first two issues of the new coin series, featuring the Green Turtle and Hawksbill Turtle, were released Monday.

Bottlenose Dolphin, Painted Terrapin, Olive Ridley Turtle, Leatherback Turtle, Dugong, Siamese Freshwater Crocodile, Whale Shark, Malayan Gharial Crocodile, Estuarine Crocodile and Irrawady Dolphin will be featured in the next 10 issues of the series.
