Thoughts on 1968 Topps Game cards...

Downtown1974Downtown1974 Posts: 6,795 ✭✭✭✭✭
I've been thinking of starting a 1968 Topps Game set. Only 33 cards in the set and from what I see on Ebay, not too hard to obtain these cards. I'd like to do it in 8s w/ NQ. Anybody doing this set or know if there are any hard 8s to get in this set? Also I have never seen the backs of these cards so if someone could scan 1, I would appreciate it. Any thoughts or ideas welcome!

its a neat, inexpensive and plentiful set.

In a straight 8 it shouldnt cost that much at all ...you should actually shoot for a couple of 9's if they are cheap.

I have a Carew and Mays, both PSA 8 NQ.

Always liked this set, thought it was a good way to get stars at a cheaper price and they are a clean looking card. Have thought of starting this set many a time.

Thanks for the scan Calleocho! You're right about getting some 9s at a good price. I've seen some 9s go pretty cheap.

Sting, The star content of this set is excellent! I've been thinking of taking a break from the 74s and doing this set. Nice looking set, easy to store, affordable, and it has a Mantle....what more could you ask for? image

If you purchase sets or singles raw, watch out for centering. Although easy to find in PSA 8 NQ, it is more because they are easily available. The majority of cards I've ever owned [raw] from this set have been o/c either t/b or l/r. Be careful with that - as a qualified example is essentially worth little.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Also watch out for the little machine roller marks that go across about 50% or more of these. They'll kill your submission dreams. These are much tougher to find in high grade than many people believe because of that, centering issues and the propensity for nicks on the edges.
Thankfully, they are somewhat plentiful. Now, if you want a real condition challenge, try '69 Deckle..............................

Every time I get sick of my '76 set I think of starting a '68 game or '64 giants set. My next PSA set will definitely be a small one.
Collector of 1976 Topps baseball for some stupid reason.
Collector of Pittsburgh Pirates cards for a slightly less stupid reason.
