What does it take for PSA to recognize a variation? (help carolj?)

I know PSA does not grade error cards, but what does it take for PSA to recognize and grade a variation? For example, I have an A-Rod Silver Signature White Name variation (pictured below). The normal card (on the bottom) has silver lettering. I also have seen examples of this white name variation for other cards in the "future foundation" subset, so I think it is pretty likely that white name variations exist for all cards in the "future foundation" subset. Would PSA recognize this as a legitimate variation?
