I believe most people are basically libertarian though they may not realize it. Everybody wants personal freedom, lower taxes and less government interference in their lives... EXCEPT {insert your pet government-funded program or restrictive law here}. Our challenge is to figure out creative ways we as a society can minimize the EXCEPTs.
<< <i>Neither; it's a defective poll.

Put me down with xphobe. Although I am registered, I never vote the party line.

I wish more people were libertarians at heart (or what I'd prefer to call capitalists, to mark the separation with those loonies in the LP). However, the two options are more and more freedom-restrictive. Very disheartening.

Both the Republican and Democratic parties are corrupt to the core and do more harm than good to this country and it's people.
A little disappointed in the party right now, but they will straighten out.

Don't always agree with them or vote for them, but I do not vote for liberals either.....
If I don't like the republican, I just go to the next contest.....
I would vote for a monkey to keep hittary out of the white house however.....
Bleeding heart, tree hugging liberal with a conservative streak.
For those of you unfamiliar with the word oligarchy this is from the Merriam-Webster dictionary;
"A government in which a small group exercises control especially for corrupt and selfish purposes; also : a group exercising such control"

Me too, Barndog. That is, my ancestors were all European. But I was born here, so I'll call myself a Native American, just to tweak SaintGuru
I believe in a Republican form of government; strong states rights. I vote for the best person for the office.

Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !

<< <i>We live in an Oligarchy, not a Democracy and not a Republic. The Republican and Democratic parties are two branches of our Oligarchy. The third branch is the Corporate/Special Interest aristocracy. Their ultimate goal is the elimination of the "middle class" resulting in a large population of poor and uneducated people that can be easily manipulated and coerced.

I belive if you look into party agendas, the democrats would fit the bill for the destruction of the middle class.
Two big differences between the parties, the Demosocialists belive that we are stupid and social programs
and government directives will show us the light, while the republicans believe the government needs to get
out of our lives, and that people can actually make decisions.
Prime example Social Security, Republicans believe these should basically be self directed 401k plans, the Demosocialists
believe that we are stupid and would lose our money! Should I go on?

<< <i>Not taking sides ultimately means you're not part of the debate. I asked a friend who usually avoids taking stands on issues why he's registered as an "independent." He said "it's like picking my nose. I like to do it, but I'm not proud of it." >>
Not at all.
Not taking sides with a *party* doesn't mean that you don't take sides on particular issues. I resent being told that I'm supposed to take the same side of all the issues with one party, that their side is always right. Bollocks.
Remember it was a dim that took and melted all the gold coins
Neither here!
Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.

Nobody completely agrees with everything a party is doing, at least if you can think for yourself..... but to say you are a down the middle independent means you, can't make up your mind on anything, go with how ever the current winds are blowing or just don't care about anything.....

<< <i>I'm excited about voting for the candidate that promises complete energy indepencence in the next 5 years (using Brazil's approach), smaller government, better schools, and a lack of interest in social/moral agendas/crusades. Which party is that? >>
I'm with you, as long as "better schools" doesn't automatically mean "more money year after year into a bottomless pit that shows no correlation between funding levels and student performance."

I doubt I'll be represented in that poll, either.
Ever get the feeling you were born on the wrong planet? I get that every day...
