What's The Best Deal You've Ever Had On Ebay?

A recent purchase got me to thinking about that. This is by no means nothing to write home about, but I just bought a mint 2001 Upper Deck Albert Pujols for $35 using a quick Buy It Now. Right now, I could probably double my money.

I remember back last year someone bought a 2001 Finest Pujols auto for $100 using a Buy It Now. I was a few seconds too late. That was when they were going for around $300. Now, they are going for $500.

What's your best deal?

I got a 1971 FB Vending box for $300 in 2001. At national last year I saw one for $4000. Of course I did not keep mine unopened.

I've made many MANY purchases on Ebay, some to write home about... others.... well, I won't brag about.
I can rememer a few descent deals, nothing huge.
Every now-and-then I'll put in some rediculous bids just to sorta 'bookmark' an auction.
Most of these bids are silly amounts, never with the intention of actually winning the auction with the amounts.

Every now and then, I get a shock! Recently I picked up an '89 Donruss Rickey Henderson PSA 10 for $.49
... I realize it's worthless, but damn! $.49?!?! Why not?

I few months back, I stepped up and picked up an '88 Fleer Update Glossy PSA 10 Rob Dibble for a whopping $1.75.
About a year ago, I managed to get an '87 Fleer Glossy Jaime Moyer PSA 10 for $.99

Probably my most surprising deal... a few years ago, I managed to get a factory sealed 1990 Bowman set for $.01
OF COURSE I USED PAYPAL to pay for this item too!
Imagine my surprise when it actually came in the mail less than one week later!

ALWAYS Looking for Chris Sabo cards!

I picked up a 1970 Topps OJ Simpson rookie, raw about 5 or so years ago for about $45. It got a PSA 9 when I sent it in for grading last year. They seem to be selling for around $600 on Ebay right now. :-)

A few years ago I bought a Dale Murphy game used jacket using the buy it now for $150. It had only been listed about 10 minutes when I hit it. I was given $1000 value for the jacket in a trade for a Bernie Williams game used jersey.

Off the top of my head, there are 3 that come to mind:

    1968 raw Robert Clemente All-Star. Paid $15 for it, graded a 9.

1956 raw Whitey Ford. Paid $130 for it, graded an 8.

1957 raw Pee Wee Reese. Paid $30 for it, graded an 8.

None of those were recent (within the last 2 years). That said, I have one at PSA now that has a shot, probably a 1 in 3 shot, at blowing these away. If it does, I will happily share. image

    Good question!

I recently picked up a 1988 Topps Tiffany Dwight Evans PSA 10 for .99 cents.

A 1956 Red Sox team signed ball with Ted Williams on the sweet spot (Got PSA/DNA Quick Opinion before I bought it) for a BIN of $85.

An early 70's Hank Aaron wire photo for $1.

A R423 strip cards with Dimaggio and Cobb for $45 a few weeks ago. I sold it for $100 a week or so ago.

I just picked up a 1999 Bowman Chrome Refractor BGS 9 Shea Hillenbrand rookie for $.49. Hey, I'm in Blue Jay country. I should be able to get at least $10 for it.

I also picked up a PSA 10 Fleer Glossy Tom Glavine rookie for $29.99 on a Buy It Now. The card is regularly selling for $50 + on eBay.

  • Anyway, I have a few great buys

Picked up a Jim Rice RC for $3.99--sent it in to PSA and got an 8

Picked up 3 David Wright Prospect Premieres for $2.25 2 years ago. They're being graded as we speak.

Picked up a lot of 10 Mets signed baseballs from Spring Training two/three springs ago for $49.00--included David Wright, Scott Kazmir, Tom Glavine (inscribe with the CY young info), Jose Reyes, Ty Wiggington and several others.

    And my best

Picked up the 66 Topps Vic Hadfield GAI 9 for $56.00 (after shipping) on SuperBowl Sunday. Crack. PSA Submission yielded a 9. Sold it for $532.00. Whole process was done over a 75 day span.

I was the high bidder on the Lindsey Lohan fart jar. I'm going to win that thing!

I bought a raw 1956 Mickey Mantle from a Yahoo auctioner (he's on the bay now) and sent it to PSA. Came back a 6. Nice deal.

I've picked up some really nice raw stuff over the last few years...granted, you get your share of NM/MT advertised stuff that shows up with a wrinkle or frayed corners, but there are still some gems to be had. The two that come to minde were both bought for under $30 each raw. One was a Clemente 1968 All-Star and the other was a 1959 Musial 3000th hit card. Sent both to PSA and both got 9's. I have since sold both (Musial for over $800 and Clemente for over $400). I even saved the scans from when the came back from PSA so am posting them here. For all I know, they both might reside in a registry set at this point in time. Hope you enjoy. -Claude

  • I received a 12-card, Topps, John Vanbiesbrouck lot about 3 years ago, and I paid just over $4 delivered. Minimum NM, but most appear to be NM-MT!!! I thought, what the heck, seemed like a good price, expected crap shaped cards, but was surprised!!!
  • Got a 2000 Grady Sizemore Auto off a buy-it-now for $20 two months ago when they were going for $250-300. Seller forgot to check the value I guess.

My best ebay deal is a little off topic. Got this mint condition 1969 BSA Thunderbolt for $1100. A bike like this could sell for over $7000. It only has 4600 original miles.

  • ^^Awesome Bike! My Dad used to have 2 BSA's back in the 60s-70's. They can move! My brother and I are both looking to get one in the next couple of years, he's been riding for some years now and I just started last year.

as with nightcrawler (alittle ot) my best ebay dea would be a 1968 dodge charger dlvd for $17,700. flipped it for $25,000. i hate to sell them things though since i love them so much. but i still have 2 left, a 1968 and 1970.

I haven't had many deals in which I'd consider a real bargain. I'd probably guess a raw '91 Clemens Desert Shield for $35 which later graded as a BGS 9.0 and could easily be a PSA 9.0. The last PSA 9 sold for over $300 online. Another would be a '90 Score McDonald Clemens for $11, but Beckett lists it as $100 BV.

Of course, I've overpaid on so many other items, none of this matters.

The one that springs to mind is the 1997 Upper Deck Legends Autograph of Art Shell. I got it for a BIN of $30. At the time they would go for $70-$100. They regularly sell for over $100 now (when they're even listed).

Mine was a lot of 500 different 1968 Topps baseball cards. They were listed as being in pretty rough shape with a few sharp cards mixed in. I ended up getting about 10 gradeable cards, including a PSA 10 Tony Olivia All Star and a PSA 9 Brock All Star. I used the ungraded cards to fill holes in a low grade set and sold the graded cards for a nice profit. I have no idea how those mint cards got mixed in a lot of mostly VG cards. It was a nice suprise.
  • I picked up 30 t205s on ebay last fall for $1300.00. The Hoblitzell no stats graded a 4, the Wallace one line graded psa 5 There were three Bresnahan (open mouth) which graded Psa 4,5,5. The Cobb graded a 2. The last Hoblitzell no stats(psa 3) sold for $12,000 plus.
The scan provided by the seller did not show the Hoblitzell, Joss, Wallace or the Cobb. What a surprise!! Most graded psa 5s.
