    No chance it gets approved.

    Great idea for Bush to get his name in the news for something other than his parents' housing issue.

    No. The NFL is pretty strict with numbers.

    Not trying to argue, but wasn't there a similar situation with Keyshawn Johnson wanting the #19 back ten years ago? Did the NFL compromise with the Players Union back then, or was it already allowed (for receivers)?
    Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

    I think he found a loophole where the team didn't have any numbers in the 80s because they were already taken by players on the roster. Wasn't he trying to get #1?

    If Edgerrin James couldn't get it in 2004 there's no way Bush should get it. But honestly, I wouldn't be suprised with Randy Moss, Plaxico, and a couple other bigname reciever switching to 11-19.

    No. It's bad enough he botched up the draft selections and allowed Williams to be drafted #1 (now no other draftee can draw as much $$$$ as Williams), but now this kid who hasn't played a single professional down yet has the nerve to try this?

    How is this arrogant? He wants number 5, and he's calmly going about the business of petitioning the league. It's not like he's threatening not to play if he doesn't get it.

    Everyone here at one point or another has asked our boss for something-- a benefit or whatever-- that was on the books as being against company policy. If we got turned down, fine-- we dealt with it. Just as I'm sure Reggie Bush will deal with it if the league doesn't honor his request.

    I don't think there is any 'nerve' involved, he simply is going to work to keep his number he's worn since he's been playing ball.

    How is it any different than a player going to a new team and buying off the number he wants?

    all he has to do is have new orleans list him as a fourth string quarterback and he can keep #5.

    He should wear #32, it adds up to 5, or maybe his crack team of agents and "marketers" lack enough fingers and toes to "cypher" that high. image

    and why not even have him take a snap as a 'shot-gun" formation QB in an early exhibition game ??

    Paul Hornung of the Packers was a running back who wore # 5, but was drafted as a QB.

    I bet he will end up with # 23. I dont see any big deal either about this, how many of us want to wear the same # in sports, myself I wear the same # in softball every year and would be superstitious to wear another. Personally I dont see any harm in asking but I hope the NFL doesn't allow it, next thing we will see is lineman wearing # 1 and so on.

    The question I have is and perhaps it is a silly one, but Is there are rule against have 2 "quarterbacks" on the field at one time? The reason I ask is that sometimes a QB and RB do the same exact thing...sometimes the QB runs the ball and sometimes you see an RB throw the ball.

    It's not commissioner Paul Tagliabue or the NFL office that determines what number the rookie running back wears this season. It's the rest of the league.

    He offered to contribute 25 percent of all jersey sales to a relief fund for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

    "Michael Vick made $1.8 million last year (off sales of his number)," said Mike Ornstein, who handles Bush's marketing. "This could be larger. We're talking of something like $400,000 to $500,000 going to the city of New Orleans; not having someone pay $10,000 to buy a number.
