    Talk about poor taste.

We already went over this about a month ago...some joker pulled this and said it was the pre steroid barry bonds card.

Pull the image...it's repulsive that people find humor in children starving.

Here's a question: Would you think this was hilarious if it was your kid on the card?
  • BoopottsBoopotts Posts: 6,784 ✭✭
Another interesting point. When I was at CU I brought in a comedian named Jeff Harms to discuss the similarities between writing and comedy (the importance of timing, and so forth), and one thing he said has really stuck with me. He mentioned that comedy almost never works when the object of ridicule is the underdog. So, for instance, a joke about the Duke Lacross team may be funny (though tasteless), but a joke about their accuser wouldn't be. This dynamic doesn't apply cleanly here, since this poor kid isn't the one being made fun of, but does at least loosely apply because this poor kid's condition is being exploited as a vehicle for humor.

It was an interesting take on the theory of comedy, which is probably why it's stayed with me for so long.

I agree about the poor taste. I think I have a good sense of humor and enjoy a good laugh, but not at the expense of children. Unless of course it's just a funny thing that kids naturally do. A kid starving to death is not funny.

The card would have been funny if a frail, skinny old man was pictured instead...perhaps with Bond's face photoshopped on to the body.

I don't like seeing children or vulnerable people, such as young people, getting exploited by any means...such as with online gambling websites and poker forums sucking in underage gamblers who lose all their money. Many high school and college online poker players are losing their tuition money among other things getting enticed and lured into playing online poker when they get hooked on it. Any comments on this Boopotts?

We've already covered this-- and my offer still stands. In fact, I can sweeten it for you: I'll turn 1K into 3K in 60 days, and I'll document the entire procedure. If I'm successful, you pay me $1000. If I'm not I'll pay you $1000. How will I do it? By bonus hustling; something my website discusses in considerable detail. In fact, anyone who takes the time to carefully read through my website and put the strategies I introduce into play will make at least 5K profit on a 2K bankroll with essentially no risk.

To clarify: My website isn't designed to glorify gambling; instead, it's purpose is to show people how to extract money through online gaming. I've done it, thousands of others have, and I'm willing to share this with anyone who wants to read though the site.

You don't believe me? That's fine. I'm happy to prove it to you. Just put up the $1000.

It's time to walk the walk, Steve, or just shut up. Either way is fine wth me.

Edited to add: If you're interested in this you should PM me. There's no reason to derail a thread, or otherwise make this a public spectacle. You embarrassed yourself publicly once before when your loud mouth sounded off on this same subject and you went on to turn down this offer, so I don't reasonably expect you to shame yourself by having to skulk away a second time. Just drop me a line in private, and like two grown men we can set up the details of the bet.

PA, I don't remember much about that whole Tawana Brawley story (I know it's all over the news here in NY)but everytime I see Rev Al Sharpton reminds of Tawana Brawley. She made Rev Al Sharpton famous. He knew Tawana's story's a hoax but he jumped on the wagon to get famous. I think Tawana changed her name, converted to Islam and left NY.

  • Why not just use a Manute Bol image?
  • It's not funny to see someone suffering.

  • agreed.

the IDEA is funny (of a desperately skinny "barry bonds rookie" to what he has become)

but the use of a starving child from a CARE segment is tasteless.

could you not just use a skinny black guy? There are plenty to chose from................................................

Yeah.....poor taste or whatever. If Bonds ever made some kind of statement to support somebody or anything - ala other professional atheletes, like a Bol or Mutumbo - maybe he would have some respect. He just cries about his own plight. He is weak and sad a a sports figure in America.

Boo - overall you're not a bad guy but there are times you act like a little punk...and your post copied here is one of those times. Anyone can use the CU forum search and check these posts for themselves to see how fraudulent your comments here truly are. But whenever you act like a little punk, I'm done responding to you about those points, and you're right...those points had already been covered, so why the f*** did you want to bring it up?

<<< Here's a question: Would you think this was hilarious if it was your kid on the card? >>>

Your comment here is being hypocritical beyond belief.

You of course intentionally didn't seem to want to respond to the real meaning of my comments, even though you should have known what I was refering to. But just so it's crystal clear...Would you think it was hilarious if your kid logged on to a gambling website and gambled away all their money including their college tuition and other things. How about that Boo? What if it was your kid? Would that be hilarious? So it's okay for you to exploit children and young people by enticing and luring them into gambling so that you receive your affiliate program commissions, but not okay to exploit some starving child from Africa? How do you explain that one Boo? Of course there is a difference, but it's still exploitation no matter how you try to spin it.

Just let me know, Steverino. We can work out an escrow arrangement and figure out a way for you to audit my results to your satisfaction. Whenever you feel ready to back up your big talk I'll be right here.

You're not going to worry about this because it's not your kid that's being harmed, right Boo? But sooner or later you'll get what's coming to you. Somebody, somewhere, at some time is going to be mighty angry at you for enticing and luring their underage child into gambling, and you're going to get sued beyond your wildest belief and possibly arrested and convicted. I believe what you're doing should be grounds for incarceration - you are receiving commissions from illegal businesses engaged in illegal activities. You may want to contact your District Attorney about this before they one day knock on your door.
  • Christ people, sure, perhaps that picture on the card was a tad out of line, but what is the difference from what is seen on network news all the time? You see people doing commercials for "Save the Children," and they show the sick and skinny people there, but how much of the money raised for these families, pad the pockets of those in charge of the organization, anything church-related, from what I see all the time, has a hidden agenda about making money, that is it! Did the camera man for any of these commercials give his sandwich to any of these children, or does the camera man even give to this organization? These people in other countries, sick and starving from famine, should blame their own leaders in control. I see injured kids in Iraq on CNN from time to time, and that is only shown to pass on their anti-Bush agenda, without any regard to their plight. Their main plight was brought on by the one who once ruled Iraq with an iron fist, but people tend to think that Saddam was a decent human being.

Before you go bashing someone on the internet, on a message board showing a picture he deemed funny, why not call the networks and have all this other crap stopped? People are so easily offended by miniscule things nowadays, but the way it goes, is not to upset the herd, and everything that is said or read, must be looked over with a magnifying glass, because everyone has to show sympathy for something.

I saw every network show the election of Pope Benedict, I do not care about him, anyone who was, can, or will be in papal authority, but I have to have that shoved down my throat on an almost, daily basis. I am not a religious person, but on occasion, I have to go to a church for a wedding, christening, or something, and I find it highly offensive that it seems, there always has to be a line or two about how it is a sin to be Jewish. Who says, God, the pope, or the priest! I have a couple friends who are Jewish, and they seem like good people to me. Also wonder about the racism in the catholic church, my buddy has a kid, I am that kid's godfather, I do not practice any religion, but it was OK for me to be his godfather, but how can a church tell my buddy, that he can pick anyone to be the godfather, AS LONG AS HE IS NOT A JEW!

I own guns, I have a CCW permit, I enjoy the shooting sports, and I find it offensive that some bureaucrats, reporters, or whatever, try to put me in the same category as someone who screws up. If my life is in danger, I will take another's life to make sure mine still exists, but just because I have that outlook, does not mean I am a killer. I tell some that I own guns, and they look at me as if I am deranged, why is that, because the media has an anti-gun agenda.

What I am saying is, just because you have a view on something, does not mean another has the same view, the original poster found it funny perhaps, some do not, some do, but it is the same thing one sees on network television!

But I did feel sorry fo rthe kid in the picture. Why these people in starving countries keep bringing kids into the world is the sad part.

I am a mom and I thought it was funny, not the kid, but the way they set it up.

    Come on now!

Sorry, if I offended anyone, but when I first saw it I got a big smile.

I just wish I had Bond's email address.

Ok, thanks Matlock. I'll get right on that.

All show and no go, I see. You still have a lot to say, like most illiterate blow hards, but when it comes down to it you won't back it up. How surprising. >>

Think that can't happen heh? That distinct possibility has already been brought up by a number of those similar to yourself who own poker forums in the United States.

Now you go make yourself proud and con some more high school and college students out of their money, including their college tuition funds, and also con some more addicted gamblers and others out of their money. Some day you'll get what's coming to you...as do most con artists.

Hey...you know we were just busting chops in that one thread. I don't even remember what the thread was about now. I never let one thread carry over into others. For instance me and Boo have busted each other up a number of times about online poker, but we usually agree on most other things relating to baseball cards. I enjoy Sports Talk and always will, but I still primarily come to the CU forum first for the cards. Can't get enough of them dam cards - LOL

SteveK, I could care less about what you and Boo are arguing about. I was talking about the dude who listed the picture of the poor kid who is starving. You gave me an award and I thought he deserved one as well thats all.....just joking around.

I hear ya about cards too.
