Donating to cards to charity?

Because of limited space and my wife; I need to thin out my recent additions. I am talking recent commons and stuff no one really wants. So does anyone know of any specific charity that will take cards? I will mail them wherever or to whomever at my cost as long it is tax deductible. I have tried all the local hospitals but they arent really interested.

I do not think most charities would know what to do with the cards on their own, but most have fund raising events that often involve silent auctions. I have found that if you can organize what you give them in logical lots, including a description and estimated value, sports cards tend to do well in such auctions and make money for the charity and get you a deduction

If you've got any large churches in your area that do work with kids, they usually eat this stuff up. I know the guy who heads up some of the youth programs at my church and gave him about 60k cards. He was shocked and grateful to get them. My wife was shocked and grateful to see them go. image The church wrote me a nice formal letter indicating the number of cards donated to use when writing them off my taxes.

When I closed my store in Kentucky, I had the same problem. I asked around and the local children's hospital gladly accepted SEVERAL large boxes of cards and gave me a tax write off for them. Try that route.

  • Thanks everyone for the answers. I didnt even think about local churches and such. That will probably be the easiest route.

If you have a childrens shelter or home, I'm sure they would appreciate them too, or try a boys & girls club. They would give you a tax receipt too.
