Favorite odd ball set?

Wondering what odd ball stuff some of you guys are into? I've always liked smaller sets. Of course, I'm partial to 1984 Ralston Purina's, but have developed a kindness towards 1992 McDonalds Baseball's Best. Nice checklist, black bolders, and gold leaf name plates and upper trim. With the new special, I may send off some to go after the set
Always buying 1984 Ralston Purina PSA 9s and 10s I NEED 19,21, and 29!!!

I started collecting the oddball 1949 Eureka sportstamps about 4 months ago in raw form. There is no more then one or two items per month on Ebay.
I did just pick up but have not received a COMPLETE SET, but this set is stamped in the book.

I have about 60% of the set in unstamped condition, including a couple of uncut sheets.

Eventually I will put together a graded set as i have many NM-MINT examples.

Check out what should be considered the ultimate set. John Woody's 49 Eureka Set. Kudos to John Woody for putting in pictures and descriptions.

Set contains only National League players, including early cards (stamps) of Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella and Stan Musial.

I really like the regional food issues. The 1990 Score McDonalds is obviously a white whale, but I've only got the Clemens card (albeit three of them).

Lately, I've sort of developed a passion for the 1991 Topps design. There by, my current favorite is the 1991 Cracker Jack Dealer's promo. It's small, relatively affordable, and legitimately scarce.

isn't 1980 Topps Pepsi limted to like 2-3 cards produced of each? I know Toppsvault sold a few proofs for crazy money and there is a thread about it but I am too lazy to look.

Not sure they can be considered cards, but I really like 1973-74 Mac's Milk discs and 1971-72 Kellogg's Iron On Transfers. 1970-71 OPC stickers are neat too with their colourful backgrounds.

Yes. Supposedly, there were three of each player produced (not proofs but finished cards) except for Guidry where there's only one. The other two Guidry's were destroyed. Topps Vault has sold lots of the proofs in various stages of completion (single color, two color, and all colors except black). They've also sold a few of the finished cards for crazy money as you say.

    Kev,

The 1975 Topps Photographers set is extremely odd. It's not baseball players who are pictured. Topps turned the cameras around on the folks who actually take the baseball player pictures. The set was listed in the annual gigantic Beckett a few years back with an incomplete checklist. I was able to pick up a checklist card, so I know that the set is complete at 134 cards (+ the checklist). Here are a few samples:

    imageimageimage

Backs show card number, height, weight, biographical information on the photographer, and a quote by the subject. Cards were produced for Topps by Mike Mandel.

I think photographers are greatly underappreciated, and more sets should be issued of them. Especially advertising photographers.

    My favorite oddball sets are:
    '16 Tango Eggs
'39-41 Team issued sets of the Reds, Cards, and Browns
    '58 Bell Brand
    '58 Hires Test cards
    '67 Test disks
    '71 Greatest Moments
    '73 '53 Reprints

    Anthony,
Would advertising photographers look more athletic than Gramma does in the middle picture?

Absolutely! At least the west coast guys- a lot of Chicago photographers look just like The Bears guys on SNL.
Imogene Cunningham was a big pot smoker til the day she died, she was really funny.

Wow I had no idea Imogene Cunningham worked for Topps. Can anyone verify if this is true, and if so, any examples of her work on cards? She's one of my favorite "art" photographers.
