<< <i>They should be able to make as many screw ups as the Yankees, or Mets, or Red Sox, or Red Wings, or whomever, and still have just as good a shot as those teams of lifting the hardware at the end of the season.
yeah and the local deli owner should have the same purchasing power and sales as the A and P
that would be great sorta utopian. Sports like ALL business is BUSINESS.

Uh, bad analogy. The NBA has a system like this in place. So does the NFL. And in case you haven't been paying attention so does the NHL. So why can't MLB?
In the NFL, the Giants and Jets have the same chances to win the super bowl as the packers and steelers. NY is the biggest media market, yet small market teams win the super bowl all the time.
Why are you so against all MLB teams having the same footing? Because you're a mets/yankees fan who enjoys having an unfair advantage?
ummmmmm I'm not against anything. I was just explaining the FACTS. FWIW the PLAYERS struck because they did not want any change. What the NFL, NHL, and NBA do is up to them.
I would very much like to see ALL teams have the same advantage.

Think about it...Hmmm I'm a Yankees fan but we've had the most success when we brought up our own guys we developed. This latest splurge by Steiny and Cashman are simply to try and get the Yanks another ring and it's not going to work. I'm a Yankees fan and I'm stating that. Jete, Posada, Bernie, were all brought up from the farm teams; once the Yankees realize that and get back to putting money into their farm system they'll get another run.
You can't blame the Yankees owner for spending money, you can though blame owners of other teams who realize they can simply enjoy the make money by not spending money on their team. The reason there isn't competitive balance in the league is A. No payroll limit(I say 85 Million) and B. No Payroll Minimum(Other leagues have it, why not MLB).

I would like to see the Tigers do well. It's pretty impressive that they are eight games over .500 at this point of the season. Leyland's made a big difference, so far.

Aren't you a Tigers fan? You should be happier these days.

How is that a bad anology?
You claimed it was, then went on and stated the NFL, NBA and if i had not been paying attention the NHL all have systems in place.
You stated that everyone should be on equal footing.
Yes?
I replied then the local deli owner should be on an equal footing with A and P.
please explain how my anaolgy is a bad one.
Thanks
