I did it. I faced my fear. Put a couple coins up with no reserve and a 99c start price

lsicalsica Posts: 1,584 ✭✭✭✭
I faced my fear, and I did it. Next week I have 2 auctions up with a 99c start and No Reserve. No, nothing too horribly expensive. But I just have this fear of them both going for a buck and a quarter...

If you're selling any coin worth over $20, I would suggest paying the extra $0.40 for the 10 day listing. I think that's one of the best listing deals on eBay right now. I used to list on Sunday nights for 1 week. Now I do 10 day on Thursday night. Tonight my auctions (started at .99 image ) are both over $100 with 8 and 11 bids, and 3 and 4 watchers, respectively. And they still have a week to go! If that's not a good deal for $0.40 I dont know what is. I think it's the only way to go now with .99 NR auctions. Sorry for babbling if this was obvious, but maybe someone didn't already know image

I like the 10 Day option. Normally I do the 7 day ending Sunday, but when I sold a PF65 Quarter for 35% of bid...yes 65% back of bid and less than PF60 money (Certified PF65 by NGC), I began to question my wisdom or lack thereof!!!

Most coins do however fare well with a $.99 start...but be ever mindful.

I always list my coins starting at .99. Made profit everytime so far.

Regardless of what the reserve is at, you need something a specific buyer wants or you wont get bids no matter the starting price.

You'll do fine. BTW, are these the ones you have a bst thread on? Just tried the links, think there might be a problem?

I started the bidding on this at $10, and got my teeth kicked in on it. Live and learn...

I also started the bidding on a wireless router at .99, though, and ended up making a profit on it, though, so you never can tell.

I listed something tonight at $0.01, but I chickened out and also forked over $20 to make it a "featured" listing so I could be sure that it didnt get buried in the muck (it's a nice piece, and a "featured" listing is appropriate). Still, I'm glad I have a day job.

5 day-ers that start tomorrow night. And of course looking at this thread, some might think that could be a problem. But they're both probably sub-$100 coins, and my limited experience with 7 and 10 day auctions seems to show that most serious biting doesn't occur more or 3 or 4 days before. So we'll see.....

I have sold over 3000 items for 1 cent start and no reserve for 6 years, including slabbed US gold. Always
done well, but I pay $19.95 for featured promotion on the expensive stuff.

I always use the 10 day listing option as well as typical start of 1 cent or 99 cents it works well to get people to bid imo.
  • Links ????

I tried the links in your BST thread but both are invalid.

I put on 3 such auctions on $10 1910-D yesterday. They're already doing quite well after 1 day!

    1910-D $10 INDIAN GOLD EAGLE PCGS AU58
    1910-D $10 INDIAN GOLD EAGLE NGC MS63

No no no no no. I didn't get them put together Sunday in time for a 7 day auction, so I scheduled 5 day-ers to start tomorrow night. I posted it to the BST forum as a preview.

I'm still working on that fear too, but haven't overcome it yet! If you have high quality or scarce items though, there should be no problem! (EZ for me to say, huh?) image

I always list everything for $0.01 start bid with no reserve.

I've got a large collection of world gold & silver coins on eBay right now.
Total melt value over $35,000. Total starting bid: 98 cents - no reserve.

Also have on eBay now an 1892-S Morgan dollar, AU-53, raw, 1 cent start, no reserve.

Cancelled my bid and closed the Lincoln Cent auction early ???

Doesn't inspire much confidence in buyers when sellers do crap like that.

I'm going to relist it starting tomorrow, no reserve again. There with things with the listing I had to fix and canceling and relisting was the only way to do it.

Care to explain what was wrong with the listing that you let it run almost to completion, and then all of a sudden 'found' ?

  • lsicalsica Posts: 1,584 ✭✭✭✭
Auction picture was lit like crap, coin looks a zillion times better in hand.

Look, I'm sorry. I'm going to relist it.

And I do have the other auction, no reserve, still running. So please don't attribute this to "fear"

Then why didn't you just add better pics to the auction instead of cancelling it?

Because I redid all the pictures in it. It now looks like it does in hand.

    and STILL NO RESERVE
