So my crazy Bro in law calls me today.....(Copper cleaning help)

He's got two big old nasty looking bank bags of wheat pennies, They don't look like they where stored in the best of condition's. The whole lot of them look funky dirty!
I'm not sure what the heck he is planing on doing with this mess but he is asking me if there is a safe way to clean them without doing any harm?

depends, acetone, olive oil(alot) then acetone. Depends on the problem.

They just look dirty like siting in a bank bag in the basement for 40 years dirty, not corroded. I was reading a post about Goo gone or pure HPLC grade acetone? Has any one ever tryed ultrasonic cleaning?

Nothing, cleaning copper will always leave it with an unnatural look.

big glass bowl, half full of acetone pour some in, run through fingers, towel.

I had a similar problem last week.
Someone suggested hydrogen peroxide.
I posted before and after photos.

I agree with coinbuf, don't clean copper, you won't be pleased with the results.
