Always liked blue on a brown Lincolnimage

I like the color very much. I know it's a new camera and you need to play with it more but the details of the coin are a little blury. What were your ISO and F stop settings?
  • its a nicon coolpix L3 and pics were taken in macro mode with all settings at auto-focus default settings. shooting with incandescent lighting what should the other settings be set at?

If it is on a camera stand or tripod of some kind you should set the ISO to something low like 100 and use the timer feature so there is no vibration from manually hitting the shutter button.

Not sure how close your camera was to the coin but there may be a minimum distance necessary to acheive the best focus. Try placing the camera 18" above the coin and using max optical zoom. If it is too far away, slowly try inching the camera toward the coin until the autofocus no longer works.

White balance looks about right so if it is on auto you can leave that alone. Otherwise there should be a preset setting for incandescent lighting.

Here is an excellent site for taking pictures of coins made by a forum member mgoodm3. Most of it applies to your camera even though he uses a nice SLR camera.
