I Bought A Buffalo Nickel...How'd I Do? ***Updated with New Images***

I probably paid WAAY too much and I don't know crap about Buffalo Nickels,
but this looked it had a die break or cracked planchet and also looked like the Indian was missing a feather.

Well, it IS a 2 feather variety which is pretty uncommon for this date. Personally, I never touch acid dates, but in this case you didn't do as poorly as you might have otherwise.

I think I can make out a "21" in the date, so it's probably at least a 1921 Buffalo. Under enough magnification, I see where the S is on the reverse. I'm going to buck the trend and say that you might have done okay. According to the PCGS price list, 1921-S starts out at $68 for G condition. Now, this coin probably won't be slabbed, because of the acid damage (at least, I think that's the way it works) but it seems to me that it's got good enough details for you to do okay on it.

Thanks for the inputs guys. I thought the coin was kind of cool and someone here said the 21 S was getting to be a rare date!!

I imagine they had to acid the date to see what it was. I did notice about two dozen others looked at the listing and passed, but I liked the cracks and heard somewhere that the third feather missing was something to cherry pick.

Probably wasted my money but isn't that what us coin collectors do??

I'll post a couple of QX5 microscope shots when I receive it so maybe under 60X we can see what the date is

Look at it this way: The worst case scenario is you paid 25,000% face value. And a Buffalo collector could easily do that any day of the week.

I think you did OK. It's a 2 feather and I've seen normal acid date '21'S's go for more on ebay.

You could spend $15.50 on lunch and not have nuthin' to show for it after a day or so. I think that you did fine.
