it almost looks like the copper is in layers and is peeling up in spots. 4 different places on the obverse with the worst one across lincolns ear and neck. there is also a big chunk of copper where his bowtie should be. thanks.

I believe it was struck on a planchet with a lamination crack.

The is a delaminating planchet.

It's called a "lamination" or "peeled lamination".

The cause is due to improper metal mixture of the planchet strip,
before the blanks are even punched out............

Common, but always interesting looking......

That's a great lamination! Hang on to that.

I can go through 2-3 dollars worth of wheats and usually find 1 or 2 of these, although I haven't had one quite to that extent. Cool find!
